i will get on it sooner or later but its been sitting there staring at me for a long time now @Grenouille
just finished Bread And Wine by Ignazio Silone.
Its a great book,at times slow but it really made me stop and think on a lot of occasions so I didn't mind that at all.
I'm sure I missed on a lot of the deeper religious and political messages so I'm gonna do some reading.
It's really captivating,I really enjoyed it.
Also that cover is stunning, one of my fav books in my collection
I havent read any Irvine Welsh in like 12 years but he's got some entertaining reads if you can catch on to his slang. I remember diggin Filth and Ecstasy. The sequel to Trainspotting, P***o was fun enough but about 100 pages too long.
how's skagboys? Heard that's the prequel to Trainspotting

Thanks for your contributions, I’ve been adding a few of yours to my TBR. You’ve finished all these recent ones on the past month?
Finished Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë this week and…
that was THEE most toxic s*** I’ve ever read
Anybody who thinks this is a “love story” should go to therapy
Nevertheless it was f***ing fantastic 5/5

A few of these I read a while ago, but yeah I'm on a binge rn. I read and finished Flowers for Algernon yesterday. Currently going through a spy novel.

4/5
The heir apparent of HP Lovecraft, while Ligotti's own beliefs of cosmic pessimism aren't exactly my taste (Rust Cohle of TD was certainly a fan) his short stories which read like lucid dreams are. Blending surrealism and traditional gothic horror, this wasn't the easiest read but once its grabs you its a trip into some really original horror.
For fans of Lovecraft, Poe, David Lynch, a touch of dark fantasy thrown in.

Just like what koala said about p***o, skagboys is really good but I remember it dragging on for too long

Yeah this book is heartbreaking

Everyone should check this book out. I think many view this book as depressing and in some ways it is. The main character, William Stoner, deals with a loveless and toxic marriage, trivial workplace drama, and a distant daughter. Through all that though, there are stark intense moments of joy and happiness scattered throughout his life. He does get to experience love in many different forms. Romantic love, love for his work, love for his child… it’s all there and for me that’s kind of what I was able to take away from it all. Sure his life is “unremarkable” as many readers have put it but there is beauty in the mundane and there are moments in life that make it all worth it.
Sidenote: don’t read the introduction, it spoils the whole book lol
4chan got one wit this rec ngl this book is straight up amazing
Just finished Dune it was cool. Just bought Dune Messiah and Ringoworld gonna try to finish em this week. After that I'm looking at Neuromancer or Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.
Finished The Book of Mac
Kind of underwhelmed, more excited for the unauthorized bio coming next year now.

8.5/10
It's complex, it's witty, it's provocative, it's tearjerking and ambitious.
Grey morality as it's finest, it's hard to distinguish between the good and bad many times but even the characters with a low moral compass can be appealing, I found myself rooting for a couple of ruthless warriors and machiavellian thinkers. POV Characters help too in having perspective of the same person described in different ways.
The players are driven by different desires and you find scenarios where lovers bring out the worst from each-other or entire villages die because one man in the court back-stabs another one.
Outside the Throne Jon and Dany start their ascension to their respective armies, showing the adversities of what will be future leaders.
Violence and s***were rarely gratuitous but mostly used to progress the story or let the charaters grow, George loves to play with taboos that successfully enrich the various cultures. World-building and lore were beautifully crafted in all their weirdness, wish he spent more effort on Dohtraki since they are pretty much a standard barbaric culture that needed other shades.
Season 1 of TV-Series adaptation was pretty faithful to the source material and almost on the same level. Hyped to read the following one, Red Wedding will thrill me.

The first and last section of this are absolutely electric. The middle section is over 400 pages with about 60 different narrators that was great at times but a struggle in patches (some of the narrators just reel off names of poets for an entire page
)
But as a whole it's so impressive. Will be thinking about it for a long time
Translates to "Until everyone dies" in Swedish. Gang violence has the past years escalated to the level that it's now seen as a national concern in Sweden. Just a few weeks ago, arguably the biggest rapper the past years named Einar, 19 years old, got shot to death execution style.
This book deals with a ongoing war between two gangs in Stockholm, how members (mostly somalis) of both gangs grew up together and slowly became enemies. But much more it deals with how institutions, culture and family failed them and why they chose that life how all the killings are done basically for no reason. It's as close you come to The Wire. If you're from Sweden this is a must read. If not, wait until the translated version is released and cop it. Literally 5/5 imo.
