Yeah in any case this book is excellent
Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

entertaining mystery/thriller about a man who gets kidnapped and wakes up in a new place. some interesting concepts but the writing was mediocre and left me wanting more. still a fun read that was hard to put down
7/10
Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro

brand new novel by Ishiguro but the first one I've read from him. this was a very unique and engaging character study about an AI robot in the near future caring for a girl and learning about humanity. it had a few interesting twists but its strength was its perspective and narration. still mulling over the ending and I think this book will stay with me for a while. definitely would recommend for anybody interested in the future complexities and ethics regarding human and AI relations. I'll make sure to check out more from Ishiguro soon.

tried to tldr but this goodreads synopsis is amazing, really worth it imo,ive been thinking about it constantly since i finished it
A Thousand Splendid Suns is a breathtaking story set against the volatile events of Afghanistan's last thirty years - from the Soviet invasion to the reign of the Taliban to post-Taliban rebuilding - that puts the violence, fear, hope, and faith of this country in intimate, human terms. It is a tale of two generations of characters brought jarringly together by the tragic sweep of war, where personal lives - the struggle to survive, raise a family, find happiness - are inextricable from the history playing out around them.

really interesting look at how technology changes the brain. Makes me feel like shutting off the phone a lot more often, and practice memorization and focus regularly.
went crazy on books last week. given up all responsibilities and future aspirations to focus on reading
Nothing To See Here by Kevin Wilson

A young woman is hired to take care of two young kids who have, to not spoil too much, a special yet dangerous ability. Really good novel about parenting, belonging, and responsibility. Funny at times and heartfelt overall, this was a nice, easy read and well written.

Jesus' Son by Denis Johnson

Collection of short stories revolving around criminals, d*** addicts, and overall degenerates. I really liked the prose, which was the right amount of poetic for me, but only one or two stories were memorable and the rest had uninteresting characters or lack of narrative. Reminded me a bit of Bukowski but without any sense of humor and less structured. Johnson's novel Train Dreams is on my reading list so hopefully I'll enjoy that more as I do like his voice.

Go Ahead to the Rain: Notes to A Tribe Called Quest by Hanif Abdurraqib

Loved this book. More of a look at ATCQ's influence and place in Hip Hop than a straightforward biography, the book also covers some of the most seminal artists of the 90s like Native Tongues, N.W.A., Public Enemy, Death Row Records, Mobb Deep, Outkast, J. Dilla, and more. The author also throws in some personal anecdotes to show the effect this music had on a young Hip Hop fan and touches on universal topics like growing up, love, friendship, loss, politics etc. There were a few oversights and at times I wished it went into a bit more detail or got more behind the scenes stories but it was really well written and entertaining. Abdurraqib is a talented writer and I'll make sure to check out some of his other work. Definitely would recommend for any Hip Hop fan of any age.
9/10

book was kinda slow for the first hundo pages and then BOOM chapter 7 hit like a truck. 9/10 i recommend reading it in one or two sittings.
It’s long and difficult I can’t blame anyone for stopping
But holy s***
This is one of the best books I’ve ever read
I can relate to so many parts of the book (being an athlete, having been depressed, having adhd, d*** use etc) that there’s sections of the book that just left me absolutely in awe. There’s plenty here that’s pretentious and annoying and unnecessary but that’s entirely the point. It makes those flawless chapters and sections so much better when you have to work through difficult patches to get to them. That’s the entire thesis of the book is that pleasure needs to be earned or it will ruin you and the structure of the book itself mirrors that
God it’s so good I can’t recommend it enough if you’re willing to give it the time
But be aware that it’s a MASSIVE time commitment. It’s close to 6-7x as big as most books and it’s regularly very tough to get through. If you do read it try and push through to about 1/3 through and then decide it’s hard to know how you feel about it before then
I too read an Ishiguro book I found quite boring

this was good but held back by being needlessly mysterious and focusing on three uninteresting characters rather than the unique concept of the story. I like Ishiguro's simple prose but the plot was never really engaging. I enjoyed Klara and The Sun a lot more, which is a bit similar in storytelling but with a much more interesting POV. surprised this book is on so many "Best Novels of the 21st Century" because it wasn't really hitting for me like that
7/10
Never Let Me Go is among one of my favorite novels, and I just finished Klara and the Sun. Its quite good.
Candide by Voltaire, really funny and thought provoking. Anyone who's read this and wants to discuss quote me!

9/10 one of the best stories Ever told
It was definitely a fun and fresh story, but best ever??? Not a sure as you are on that!

was this your first time reading it ? it’s my favorite of all time since HS
Her Body and Other Particles by Carmen Maria Achado

the first story in this collection really hooked me but then it was downhill from there. just uninteresting stories and characters and some experimental structure decisions that didn't work at all for me.
3/10
Train Dreams by Denis Johnson

this was just ok but not interesting or eventful enough to recommend. again, I like Johnson's prose but he seems incapable of telling a linear story and all of his work just seems underwhelming to me.
4/10
gonna try to pick a more plot driven book next cause these last few been boring
