Probably his health had to do with some of the flaws of the original but I f*** with his writing pace. It feels more traditional and book like.

Shounen Jump has a very anime-esque writing style and also trained its readers in that. Manga is a visual medium and they publish for decades. Alot of the WSJ writing relies on time spend with characters. Visually seeing them. Spanning decades and spelling core points out repeatedly. That boosts merch sale and the characters take on a life outside of the story

Gege has none of that but subverting this makes the little moments so much more powerful. He doesnt invent the wheel or anything but in this particular magacine and this genre his approach feels fresh

People won’t give Gege grace knowing he was sick and hospitalized towards the end of the original run. It’s unfortunate. Modulo is a direct continuation though and makes up for it by closing plot threads.

Gege writing short sequel spin offs vs Fujimoto writing one shots
