yeah this is my biggest complaint. I knew nothing about this story before seeing the film, and I thought it was pretty well done, great in some scenes.
The performances were really solid but once I found out how old they were in real life at the end it changed the movie for me. Daniel especially was way too f***ing old for this movie. They should have cast young men in these roles.
to be fair, a lot of those guys in that time period looked way older than they were. Otis Redding for example died at 26 but looked like he was damn near 40. Fred Hampton looked about 35 IRL

Fred Hampton did look like he was well in his thirties in the archival footage of this speeches blown away he was only 21

Fair point. Still just feels off to me.
But overall I really liked the movie.
William O'Neal. Trash ass nigga.
Yep, if it wasn’t him though FBI would’ve got someone else unfortunately.
Lakeith is incredibly versatile.
I absolutely f***ing hated his character, but that just means he did a really great job in his role. He plays a good villian

Cus them niggas had to be Saiyans to survive
Hampton never even had a chance
They said man was d***ged so hard that he probably would’ve died regardless if he wasn’t shot
RIP Chairman Fred.
I found the movie really good. I hated Lakeith's character, but could at the same time muster up some sympathy for his predicament. He played that s*** extremely well. His face and whole demeanor came off really conflict ridden at times. Again, really well done. Same goes for Kaluuya, impressive performance as well.
Movie definitely hit me in the feels though. I was familiar with Fred's story beforehand as well, from researching his name after I heard him referenced in rap songs over 10 years ago. But I'll be damned if I didn't drop some tears at that final scene man ffs
I'm tired kings
Wonderful movie. Daniel and LaKeith KILLED it.
The ending really made me mad though. Crazy how similar Fred Hampton’s murder was to Breonna Taylor’s. 😢😢
The sadder part is that the white man basically used the black man to take down another black man. 😢😢
Man this s*** spoke to my soul. I popped an edible and watched this. So I was feeling intense emotions at certain points during the movie. Daniel, and Lakeith did a great job in this. Need people to give Dominique Fishback her flowers too, she killed her role as well! She’s been killing every role since The Duece.
Especially me being born n raised in Chicago, man this hit especially hard. Very cerebral feelings I was experiencing while watching this.definitely need to watch it again tonight.
Wish Shaka King could sneak in there for a Best Director nomination but it's too stacked.
The power of self preservation is real. It’s easy, particularly in hindsight, for us to sit here and act like we couldn’t have possibly done the same thing but one of the interesting things the Lucas brothers said in their post interview on HBO is that one of the reasons they wanted to tackle this story from the angle of Bill, instead of doing a straight up biopic, is because they wanted to challenge the empathetic capacity of the audience. Theoretically, they felt like more people would be able to empathize and relate to Bill rather than chairman Fred, which creates emotional conflict and I believe there’s some truth to that. We can certainly relate to and admire his ideology but him as a person? How many of us were truly ready to die for a cause bigger than ourselves at age 21? One you weren’t indoctrinated to through birth or nationalism but instead, adopted through struggle? That’s a once in a generation type of personality. You have to be born with that mind set and I don’t simply mean from birth but it has to be born within you some how, some way through pain, struggle, or enlightenment. Bill, ultimately, was just a kid caught in emotional turmoil struggling to find himself. On some basic emotional level, we can all relate to that. It really is a story, more than anything, about survival. One man sought it through revolution, the other through deceit. And ultimately, both their bodies were sacrificed for their cause. Self preservation is a motherfucka
Just finished my second watch. Man is gonna be one of those films they play in schools from now on. This is an amazing piece of work. Powerful performances all around.
I’m thankful they didn’t ruin the atmosphere of this movie by trying to score it with Cardi b or some s*** I literally can’t stand when niggas do that
Literally ruined Lovecraft whole vibe
I'm a fan of Lakeith acting in general, and Daniel Kaluuya really shows up in everything I seen him in, so this should be sum special
