never understood the hate for that movie tbh. i thought Nope was more of a misstep off one viewing, but i'd like to check that one out again

Get Out > Nope > Us

Some people felt he tried to do too much with his message. Like the movie was made for a Us Explained youtube video.

Nope is such a fascinating movie. It’s so incredibly dense and layered

I also love how Peele was simultaneously able to make a big budget blockbuster horror film, while also being able to make a movie that’s packed full of symbolism and subtle storytelling

You can either sit back and just enjoy it as a monster movie, or you can dissect it frame by frame

Def give it another try. There’s no guarantee you’ll love it, but it’s for sure a movie you should watch more than once

Two of the big themes in the movie that I’ve unpacked is the treatment and exploitation of black people and animals in the movie business….and also our unhealthy obsession with spectacle and wanting to record everything even if it puts us in direct anger

I just love the little details, like how the cameras in this scene resemble the “aliens”. Peele puts so much detail in to his shots, and I always appreciate it

If you cant understand how Us is relevant with a pandemic and people constantly consumed by killing each other with a movie that starts and ends with holding hands on a tv I dont know what to tell you

    real af take

I thought Get Out was okay, and Us was way too messy but both were carried by their originality/progressive topics and the constant glazing and over a***ysis.

I walked into the theater ready to hate Nope but it was really enjoyable. I think part of the negative reception was that it didn’t hold your hand like the previous two films when it came to “understanding” the themes.

Get Out was better than Us for me but it felt too much like an SNL sketch rather than a real movie tbh. Us just felt like a lazy John Carpenter imitation.

I def think hes capable of better than Nope (suffers from him trying to imitate great filmmakers again but in this case its him trying to imitate Shyamalan and Spielberg) but its also the first time I feel I've seen a real semblance of his style starting to emerge. Hoping he continues to build off that.

That’s exactly why it’s my favorite of his. The writing is so good and pulls off something that very few are able to accomplish

    Yes.

I enjoyed the other two and they’re not bad but Nope is his first great film. People don’t wanna admit it. Can take a lot of directors a few films before they finally achieve what they’ve been working towards. Should be normalized tbh

exactly. Plenty of filmmakers take 4-5 films before they truly grow into their own. Honestly, I don't trust a filmmaker whose best work is their first few films.

Before Killers of the moon Marty did an interview where he talked about (I am paraphrasing here) that through making the movie he had started figuring out new ideas to communicate and develop new stuff. So yeah, a director shouldn't be making their best work super early on. I really hope Peele has a long carrer because I do think he and Ari Aster are probably the best young guns out imo.
