I do think Todd Phillips gets a lot of flack from critics and filmbros alike because he isn't an indie darling who finally made it. He's a guy who made popular frat boy comedies, then leap frogged into getting Oscar Noms. If Greta Gerwig had made Joker and made it the exact same way. The same critics bashing Todd would have loved Joker and praised it.
Only filmbros are to blame for excpeting every major release to be like Persona, Le petit soldat, or a Rashomon. They need to smoke a blunt and stop taking mainstream cinema so seriously.
