Arthur gets stabbed by another inmate and dies. Apparently that’s the real joker
not sure why i spoiled it for myself but ill def go see it tbh why not
not even mad at that
Seems like Todd Phillips really didn't want make a sequel but since the first movie was such a cultural event the WB suits forced him to make him a sequel.
Felt like Phillips said fine "You really want Joker 2? I'll give you Joker 2,"
And made a 200 million dollar slow burn arthouse musical as a middle finger to the studio lol
Also there is absolutely zero reason for Harley Quinn to be in this movie. Literally zero

Is there any source that he didn’t want to make a sequel but was basically forced to? I thought I heard that he was the one who had ideas for a sequel around the time the first one released
Yeah looking back on it now it actually sounds like Joaquin was the one who was more enthusiastic about a sequel happening, but in August 2019 Todd Phillips said he had ideas for one, but that the first movie wasn’t created with a sequel in mind.
So it sounds like he was open to it but not adamant about it

Actually it was Joaquin who was apparently game to come back. Todd needed some convincing but wasn't 100% against it:
Joker (2019) was intended to be a standalone film with no sequels.18 Warner Bros. intended for it to launch DC Black, a line of DC Comics-based films unrelated to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) franchise with darker, more experimental material, similar to the DC Black Label comics publisher.1921 However, even before the film wrapped, Joaquin Phoenix told director Todd Phillips that he didn't feel ready to leave Arthur Fleck behind; one night while falling asleep, Phoenix had a dream of his character performing onstage, telling jokes and singing, giving him the idea of possibly doing a musical sequel.10 While Phillips said in August 2019 that he would be interested in making a sequel, depending on the film's performance and if Phoenix was interested,22 he later clarified that "the movie's not set up to have a sequel. We always pitched it as one movie, and that's it."23
In October 2019, Phoenix spoke to journalist and Rolling Stone film critic Peter Travers on possibly reprising the role of Arthur Fleck, stating, "I can't stop thinking about it... if there's something else, we can do with Joker that might be interesting,"24 and concluded, "It's nothing that I really wanted to do prior to working on this movie. I don't know that there is more to do ... Because it seemed endless, the possibilities of where we can go with the character."
I guess Joaquin really loved playing Arthur/Joker to pitch this idea. because he had a no sequel rule for the longest time.
One of the reasons he turned down Doctor Strange because of the Marvel Contract.

Yeah I just read this, I’m even more confused now
If Joaquin was so excited about portraying the character again, why kill him off in this movie? Unless something happened between then and now to make him not want to return for a third film

Gonna come back to this after I see this tonight

So then why kill him off? A third movie is all but guaranteed to happen, I don’t think this will be a major box office flop to not warrant a third film
Nothing about this makes any sense
Joaquin and Gaga will be fine after this.
I'm wondering where Phillips career is gonna go after this. Is he gonna go back to make silly comedies again or is he gonna stay on the serious "auteur" director path. Could see him linking with A24 or Neon for his next movie to get indie "street cred"

We definitely getting a Joker 3. This would have to be an all-time disaster at the box office for that not to be the case, I don’t see that happening

Bonkers Idea but if Joaquin and Todd love Arthur so much and still want to follow him maybe in 3 Arthur is in "hell" or purgatory and maybe the movie is about him trying to get peace in the afterlife or something idk lol. Seems like something those two would do

It’s flopping at the box office as we speak lol. Projections are dropping and word of mouth is toxic. 0% chance we get a Joker 3
Alright. Movie gonna start in a bit
Im about to watch cinema of the year
Unfortunately no your not my friend
That was literally the running theory when the first movie came out, that Arthur Fleck would just be the inspiration for the real Joker to come, I just got out of the theater and I can’t believe they actually did that
this s*** got me dead bruh
this def ain't need a sequel
The last DC franchise to get a third movie was Nolan’s trilogy, why do they keep messing up every single sequel
