Streaming killed albums, labels and artists are only concerned with singles that stream well. The rest of the songs on albums are just filler.

And the fans dont hold them accountable because they’re only paying $10 per month for all music.

Jimmy knows, he wouldn’t just say that.

To his point…the top tier artists probably have much more favorable deals with the label when it comes to streaming splits because they generate so much revenue.

It’s the mid-tier and lower tier artists that make pennies off of streaming.

No doubt the deals are good, but I think my question is how does streaming rival in revenue vs the CD era? Are artists making more money off of music alone today than they would 20 years ago? I have my doubts.

I mean it was a pretty genius move by the industry to stay afloat after the era of piracy that coincided perfectly with the rise of smartphones and social media
It made all the sense in the world, without getting into the morals

There is a large population that will never use utorrent

Sounds like he gave some of the game away. If someone develops a platform that helps an artists connect with their audience the way Instagram facilitates that for their creators, then that could replace streaming platforms.

    Streaming hate circle jerk commencing

Ya'll never gonna make me hate how much more I love listening to music since streaming

Being locked in to pay a subscription fee every month to access 'your' music library retaining zero ownership of any files having to bend over and eat any price increase your streaming service of choice decides to impose on you or lose all content access streaming really GOATed

I'm pretty sure digital storefronts like iTunes started to kill the album format too. Because someone could just buy the one or two songs they liked from the previews vs. the whole album. But agreed that streaming further diminished the format

    The top tier artists? Yes

    Middle class and below? No

Thats basically what Jimmy Iovine said in the clip that the OP posted.

That’s probably why Kendrick was able to take a five year break , the streaming revenue was so good.

  • eversince

i like when ppl tout physical music players when like i guarantee 90% of them pirate their music or buy second hand CD's so the artist isnt making s***

kinda defeats the purpose of sticking it to streaming while ur money still isnt goin to the artist's pocket. unless u straight up buying from itunes / their merch site / a store that isnt second hand

What if you do both? Sometimes you have to

M4 Mac Minis have upgradeable flash storage. But I don't even need upgradeable flash on my hypothetical new iPod. Just give me a 512GB SSD out of the gate and I'm good
