He isn't mercury prize level at this stage imo. I think he shows potential but for me it's not music of the highest quality yet

jim is on a different level but i legit feel like mink has a bigger audience

they’re not sonically comparable immediately but they exist in this uk underground ecosystem that’s taking influence from indie music and 2000’s american rap, with a uniquely british style in their earnest lyricism.

both artists are kinda subverting the egomania rap has been stuck in past 10 years with an honesty that drake built his early career on.

but in with u, jim is on an entirely diff level.

i agree that jim and mink draw on similar influences (Drake is a huge one) and are both broadly part of the uk underground, but thats about it. jim conveys way more emotion and urgency through his vocals, like he genuinely has a great singing and rapping voice which enables him to do so much more (issues of trust, sos, and i just banged a snus in canada water all being on the same album is crazy versatility). mink on the other hand just doesn’t have an interesting voice imo and its a limiting factor for his music. the production is always the best part

?? I think Jim legacy is not top level experimental music. He might get there though as he definitely has talent.

My feeling is that his main audience has been uk rap fans, who mostly didnt listen to experimental music, so i get the appeal.

Think mink also can do things Jim really can’t, they both have similarities but their music is wildly different. Jim is a polished fusion act that’s much more pop and sentimental mink makes hazy diverse rap music that pulls from cloud rap babyfather and modern ug lol. Easter pink isn’t something Jim would make, sos isn’t something mink would make. It’s like comparing black kray to uzi
