I listen to plenty s*** outside rap and this was an impressive eclectic colourful well produced project that sounded great. Hnpm was not nearly as varied and well made

He’s incredibly creative, he has a great ear for melodies, he fuses things that aren’t often fused in a unique way that stands out, it’s sentimental and feels grand. I don’t see what you’re saying. I think if someone else did dexters phone call, or issues of trust hey would still be great but the fact it’s being done on a British rap jerk afrobeat pop rnb album too is quite impressive

I was agreeing with him in the sense that I think he is quite a bit overrated right now

And btw I prefer hnpm for pretty much the opposite reasons as to why u like bbm but hey this thing is subjective right 🤷🏾‍♂️

feel like people say this about any new artist that’s getting praise tho idk I just don’t get it u said oh this is just impressive cuz rap fans only listen to rap but like I don’t see anyone hearing issues of trust and not being like hey this is p great tho. All I’m saying is surely you can understand why he’s being beloved for this project for something other than ignorance of other music, and why people would be impressed?

I’m sure the push is in some part due to XL’s marketing scheme for him but I seen folks across the internet saying that this is AOTY within the first few hours of it being out lol

Not that they aren’t allowed to feel that way but a lot of good ass music dropped this year outside of mainstream/hyped up s***

Also you’re on a music forum man I think we can safely agree that you’re probably more open to other genres than the average hip hop listener lol

Anyways I guess my main point is that Jim is great for music and is obviously a very inspired creative so I’m excited to see what’s next but I was eagerly waiting for this project and was left kinda underwhelmed tbh. I really just wish fans would let him grow at his own pace rather than looking for the new “guy” which I don’t feel like he’s there atm

I get what you’re saying fs and Ty, for his popularity and all it’s just Father was huge and people have been anticipating this album for a while and it blew people away. Idk I just love to see it getting that love and attention yknow. The album for a lot of ppl really feels like such a breath of fresh air for people I just love tos re new artists celebrated and getting flowers rather than under the radar or brushed off, but I do feel like yea it might be too fast to insert him in a role that makes sense esp with the disconnect of u were didsapointed esp cuz there’s the worry of him flaming out too quick. To me he kinda is that guy alr esp based on what he’s said but I see where ur coming from. I feel good about the future apparently he had s*** with Dean blunt that didn’t make it and all he wanted to do

I don’t even remember Kanye being respected as the guy until Graduation so it’s a lot of unnecessary pressure and expectations on Jim

I disagree I think it’s just people living in the moment and it’s natural when u make a beloved body of work, I mean who else has had a breakout debut like this really? Much like the Kendrick drake etc etc people are just living in the moment, and I love that. I feel like we should do less worrying and more of just appreciating what’s in front of us yknow? I do hope he’s not being overwhelmed with pressure tho but based on his live he seems to be invigorated

idk if it’s just label/promo but it’s a lot of good timing with “uk underground” having a moment rn and jim mixes that with a more soulful sound that also gives him appeal to people who listen to frank and post flower boy tyler and stuff in that lane

Yea I jsut feel like that’s not a good way to look at things esp considering like historically I think it’s just people enjoying new music lol me and my friends have a LOT of s*** we love this year and new artists we love it’s just connecting with us

I would actually say that pushed artists to be great more than anything

Drake, Ye, Em, etc. were denied like a mf until they became virtually undeniable

Feel like artists had way more to prove then

Feeling positive about the music is one thing forcing comparisons is a whole different beast

Kendrick and j Cole was beloved as soon as they debuted man this isn’t a rule art ain’t like that. Frank had one mixtape then a beloved album. Rocky debuted with a classic tape.

This back then would’ve got rave reviews I don’t understand how this is indicative of any lack to prove something. I get your not a huge fan and all but dawg people just love the music and wanna express how much he’s sold them as an artist, think it’s fair one album can affect them that way for them to be excited and happy about the artist yknow. I get the sentiment tho
