Solid 6. The first half needs some better mixing and I'll bump to a 7. (Like if kanye cares lol) but it's a good album just not a mind blowing one like mbdtf or yeezus.
First listen wasnt really feeling it much. Second and third listen was much better, the sounds/beats and message are very spiritual. Been listening to Kanye since middle school like many others here but TBH this album is a solid 7.
Sometimes i wonder if he would ever surpass MBDTF that was a 10/10.
Lyrics: 4/10
Production: 10/10
Mixing: 2/10
Overall: 5/10
Fix the mixing and I would say the album is 8/10.
I like the album tho, even with mid ratings. I love the positive energy. It’s like the opposite Yeezus
8. prolly 8.5
Going to sit with it a while obv but I feel like this is a top5 album of his
Half the number of people who are now calling Yeezus classic were calling it trash and mid when it came out. Reaction to JIK is the exact same
7/10. would be a 6 if it wasn’t for me really enjoying a few songs and not totally cringing from the lyrics.
5-7 is an understandable range. above that you’re a stan, below that you’re a hater (or you’re disgusted that it’s essentially unfinished/a collection of demos)
Guys the horrible mixing isn't going to change the fact that there's no flow to the album, there's a big chop in the instrumental before he lands one of the worst verse of the year on Water, and another chop to the instrumental an empty Kenny G saxophone. The intro track is loudly boring and the outro ends before it even starts.
We all know the lyrics suck, but I really don't see how the production is anywhere near good... its borderline bad.
8.5-9/10. I get major TLOP vibes from this project. I love how each song is different than the next one, and you get brand new vibes from each. It’s like going through one of those 90s Viewmaster reels. With each click, you got a new picture. Similar to this album.
The production on this album is top notch, and the lyrics are Pablo-tier which is fine by me. This album has great wholesome vibes, but also dark ones (Hands On is a perfect example).
The album is, easily, better than Ye. It’s not better than any of his first 7 albums, but it’s still a very solid album. It’s amazing that he can still make albums like this after being married, having 4 kids, and working on Yeezy ventures.
first listen i'm thinking maybe a 4-5/10. lot of good ideas and production is actually really interesting at some points but weird mixing, no super coherent sound-wise (imo), and lyrics are questionable. just feels rushed and still unfinished to me, and first half isn't super interesting
1. Intro: 5/50 nice intro i guess
2. Selah: Could've been 10/10, the leak(og) had MUCH better verses, but the production on this was MUCH better. I would way 7/10
3. Follow god: 10/10 this albums "Gorgeous" Threw me back to MBDTF times
4. Closed on Sundays: Love the beat, verses a bit on the corny side, but still a 8/10
5. On god: Pablo vibes 7/10
6. Everything We Need: Leak was much better, 6/10, mixed version og the leak would've been a 7 or 8.
7. Water: Wtf is this trash? Top 10 worst Ye song. 1/10
8. Nothing i would listen to on a daily, but 5/10
9. Hands on: Feels like something's missing? 6/10 but feels like this gon grow on me to atleast 8/10
10. Use This Gospel: Chakras. 10/10 Clipse feat, no need to say no more.
11. Outro, would be so much better if it was instrumental. Kanyes vocals just corny.
Overall: Well the mixing was catastrophic, everything was overcompressed and had no energy. Vocals sounded like they were recorded with an iphone in the kitchen and was mixed badly. I really don't get why you would crush the energy like that on an album that realies on production and energy.
