What's up with the QC on records right now? Haven't been able to buy any in a few years so I haven't kept up

it really boils down to the lack of pressing plants and not giving af about properly transferring over digital content to an a***og format lol. most of the brand new vinyl that you see in stores were pressed in Czech Republic (they run GZ, the top plant across the world and it's been like that for years). they're notorious for being very hit or miss.

man i wish i had a book or something to refer to, but most of my knowledge just comes from scattered articles, grumpy old men arguing on Steve Hoffman/Discogs forums about variants, and my personal experience of collecting old and new records over the years.
i think the one thing everybody points out is that as soon as CDs started taking over in the early 90s, it was a wrap for vinyl prodcution...and we're still seeing those effects 30+ years later. digital production is just easier to maintain than a***og.

yeah i would advise to proceed with caution on that website lmao…literally just snobby boomers with a lot of money who invest into audiophile equipment and records. they’re very informative when it comes to different pressings of albums (which, honestly now that i think about it, plays into why i know so much about the industry as well)

What have you learned about the industry beyond record pressings?
Also....link 🧐

i learned to appreciate music and the art of the album for what it really is…something we have taken for granted in a post-CD/iTunes world.
i’m not saying people who only listen on streaming services don’t appreciate music as much, but this is a recent phenomenon. people tend to be more appreciative when you give them limited options ($20 for one album as opposed to $10 a month for every song of all time)
