if Jay was never number one but is still regarded as the goat 25 years later what does it matter that nelly had a better year than him 22 years ago lol

Because this is rap. It is the most competitive and dog eat dog genre. Jay Z was trying to be the top dog and failed. He is still one of the goats but it will be part of his legacy forever.

Just like athletes who never win a championship. They can be amazing players but they play to win championships

What im saying is that its not really apart of his legacy in any meaningful way and nobody actually cares if dmx had a better year than jay did in 1999

Hov literally shut down the whole rap game in 2026 with an acapella freestyle. Let that s*** sink in some more, Hip Hop might not be dead after all

    In a way

Wale said it best on X but basically media only seem to care about hip hop when there’s beef involved, otherwise the media not really dissecting lyrics and praising hip hop

Wale be jaded af but he has a point here

music isn’t sports so all this no 1 s*** including him being the goat is entirely opinion

People still constantly use it against him today so obviously it is part of his legacy lol.

Sort of. But in this case people care because it's one of the all time greats rapping again.

    no one is discrediting jay.

we are just saying the TRUTH.

there has never been a time in drakes career he wasnt THE TOP DOG. he was even s***ting on jay numbers wise pre and post streaming.

hov has had multiple times throughout his career he was outshined by another rapper clearly.

women lie, men lie, numbers dont.

you can use all that amazing propganda to put hov over every other rapper ever, none of it will work with drake.

    he's finally met his match...

I’ve never denied that… I just don’t care lol because it’s all relative. We’re not talking about f***in Pharoah Monche here. There is more to how big of a rap superstar you are than numbers ona chart. Jay combined with doing the numbers he did (and he also shouted out his competition many times) and his cultural cache and how influential his label and him being the head of that label propelled him as arguably the top figure In the game no matter if a new nigga came in white hot.

And yes I know what he said 20 yeas ago, but the bar isn’t him saying “numbers dont matter” he’s just lil bro’in Drake.

Wale is exhausting, that’s why he didn’t stay as popular.

Something happens and makes it a slight against him constantly.

He didn’t stay popular because he didn’t consistently make great projects.

I think you’re overestimating how big of a conversation that is outside of whatever circles of the internet you engage in

Niggas want to compare it to sports… but then complain about the industry being rigged.. well only when it’s rigged against their favorites tbh. So maybe it is like sports

    Shutdown

  • Like im well aware of the hov was never the number one thing its been a thing in like niche internet circles for awhile but like no one actually cares about that its just a stan talking point ultimately

It's a talking point for people who think of art as something that's quantifiable, like statistics in sports. It's sad, but it is what it is.

all im saying is when drake talk about the actual game of being a rapper this nigga wanna start talking about being a business man. he gon make a roc nation goal post moving service. this is how Jay would make himself better than others, and now he is going against someone it dont work against bra

cant lil bro lil bro no mo

This is true, but if you’ve peeped Jay’s out put over the last ten years he’s gotten more introspective and philosophical. Going by 4:44 and the Jay elec project, some of his features/ The nigga old now.

    Definitely

I was there at the concert and it was legitimately great seeing Hov on stage rapping again

At one point in the show he even said “I miss this s***

  • The thing about jay is that he doesn’t stream too well on Spotify as opposed to Drake who, if you take the time to read a post on ktt, he does stream well on Spotify. What does that mean? I have no idea
