If you’re going on pure numbers - then ok.

I never claimed that Jay was the biggest selling rapper.

What im saying is that he’s (still) more relevant than those other rappers, even without having dropped an album in 9 years.

Not sure why you’re trying so hard to downplay Jay lol. I like Nas, Em, etc.

We don’t have to downplay a rapper to prop others up

What objective metric are you using to determine relevance?

Aside from how a 60 year old man makes you feel in your body

  • JAY Z is GOAT, I want to see him live so bad
Rappers third of his age have none of this energy

    He really hates jay z

Also young people in general are so conditioned to be rooted in comparison that they think someone cannot be good and win unless someone else is bad and loses.

What on earth are you talking about?

HE started off the conversation by saying Jay Z more relevant and more consistent than Eminem and Nas.

I then asked him to prove it.

He started stuttering, and here you come to assist.

You're also displaying hilarious lack of self awareness if you think comparison is the the very basis hip-hop (and Jay Z's entire persona) is based on.

You can't be both old and ignorant, G. Pick a struggle.

    I’d pick old

Which part of my post do you think is false

You not liking jayz or youth being ingrained in comparison

I can’t understand why you’re spending so much energy trying to convince people to not like jay z lol

In terms of legacy guarding and preservation, Jay Z is probably the best at this. But it also takes a machine and resources to do so in his case.

It’s naive to believe it’s all organic reverence.

To his credit, he seems to care more about this than Eminem or Nas. Part of that is because he leverages his legacy as his brand and his value that he brings to business ventures.

Last year was probably the biggest hit he took to that effort and that’s why he sounds a lot less cool, calm, and collected than normal in this freestyle, which is not a bad thing. He could benefit from, for once, not coming off as irreproachable.

Everybody's "ingrained in comparison"... it was probably even worse then than it is now.

This isn't my opinion, BTW, there's song lyrics, and cultural detritus to prove it.

I don't like Jay Z in the same way I dont like Peter Thiel; they're capitalist leeches that make the world a worse place.

I dont care if you like Jay Z or not. If the nigga had said, "I love Jay Z so much", I'd have kept it moving.

What I won't countenance, however, is people just straight up lying about verifiable facts. Jay Z is a great rapper, but he's never been THE GUY in any era. He's also not the most consistent, as demonstrated above.

In general, even IRL, people need to understand that facts aren't things that can be twisted and spun to fit whatever narrative you like.

    Most of that’s fair sure

You view rappers how you view hedge fund managers?

What’s the argument to be made against projects like the black album, reasonable doubt, the blueprint, and American gangster?

I mean I listen to music. And that s*** is undeniable.

I don’t really know about people’s net worth like that.

  • Didn’t jayz sell crack and kill people? Who thinks he’s an angel?

No argument at all, they're amazing albums.

I just feel really uncomfortable when people aren't capable of being objective/being parasocial.

I'm going to ask you a question: did you listen to the freestyle and did you notice any points where he seemed to be struggling for breath?

Oh, I just seen your edit.

I think Jay Z should be held to an equal standard because hes deliberately placed himself as a mouthpiece for the culture and takes advantage of that to enrich himself.

It's not his fault that the Black community has very few thought leaders and our role models have sadly become rappers and athletes, but it was a considered decision on Jay Z's part ro use his influence as a way to sell out the Black community to White billionaires.

She should make a diss record and/or start shooting niggas instead, the way rap beefs used to go in the good old days.

Nicki minaj particularly has become a completely different person over the years. I don’t even remember her last song or even last diss song. All I know is she’s become what Meek mill was accused of becoming which is having Twitter fingers (and becoming maga)

No matter his age, jay has always been consistent with the way he drops these live concert/festival acapella freestyles. Nobody can ever outdo him in wordplay subliminals.

Not the angle I wanted from Jay, rappers go straight to the Im richer than you talk off rip lol.

You better and more creative than that angle Jay.

He was pretty creative here. Also he’s responding to these dweebs who’ve mentioned his name past year or so
