Jay-Z’s discography been a mess on DSPs for years, he seems to re-release or re-upload the albums every few years, wipes out all my liked songs on Spotify. iTunes tells me I don’t own any of his albums yet they’re all there under purchased items.

Might I advise an iPod classic.

Lol this mishap made me think about you.
Last year there was something funky going on with OutKast's Speakerboxxx/The Love Below where most of the album wasn't playable. Stuff like this is a downside with streaming but the positives outweigh the negatives I think

Glad I’m kinda getting people to think then lol
Pros don’t outweigh cons for me. I don’t mind spending time. I want to own my own library instead of the lifetime monthly fee for access to music.

You get access to essentially every song with that monthly fee tho which is a huge positive. Like I'm able to dive into an older artist's discography with streaming. It's also a vehicle for expanding your taste as well.

a positive for whom?
No other industry goes by this metric for a reason lol. It's nota sustainable model because eventually it's gonna be a loss for the creators/businesses behind the products and you're gonna have to hike the price a lot (e.g. GamePass)

I’d argue getting access to every song with a monthly fee is unhealthy.
Expanding your taste is often an illusion of choice and also can be done with owning things. I know in fighting a losing battle here.

Positive for me personally
I’ll concede that the equity regarding musicians receiving their fair share isn’t ideal (which is an issue that’s deeper than streaming) but it has made independence a more viable/lucrative option for up and coming artists

It has never been a worse time to be an up and coming artist
