Still that was middle school and highschool, so 30+ years ago. And sadly as insensitive as those 90s interviews are he's right that this is not uncommon in Japanese schools at all ever since at least the 80s. Bullying over there to this day is insane and causes hundreds of suicides every year

The statistical numbers are skyrocketing recently but honestly I think this has more to do with it becoming more normalized to even report on bullying at all.

It's good this is getting attention and I'm def sort of shocked, but still the mechanics of cancel culture set weird precedents tbh. Like, this is a 50 year old getting fired from a job because he was an a****** student in his teens.
