I wish it was about 15 minutes longer but it's a solid album. I think people are still hoping another ArchAndroid or Electric Lady, but that Janelle is LONG gone. Lol
Doesn't mean I can't miss that Janelle all the same lol there were still glimmers of it on DC and even here just not nearly as much
I like Jidenna's latest album more than this atm
Ay but that album is really good!! Not even a slight to Janelle. Jidenna ain’t come to play

He's kinda corny but yeah I dig his music

ArchAndroid was a once in a career type of album, I don't think she'll ever top it....but I think she could still put out something par with Electric Lady if she wants to (but she probably doesn't)

See I prefer EL to AA personally lol both terrific, classic albums for me though...if he doesn't want to go back to that style I'm fine with it as long as she's making the music she wants to make and it's not being forced on her by higher ups or whatever
Album is pretty underwhelming so far. The reggae island esque tracks are the best, wish she would have just leaned into that for the whole album
Janelle is the weakest thing about this album. She's just kinda chilling, which is disappointing since she's such a force on her first three albums.
The production and afrobeat/dub instrumentals with the gapless sequencing is kinda sick though. Great vibes there.
I don’t think people have realised the magnificence and the message of this album. i’m sure the majority is gonna change their mind.
i agree that they should make music for them, but it's a particular case where the cindi mayweather saga was left visibly unfinished and in terms of the universe left a lot of open ended questions. they were the one that pitched it as a 7-part story, so it should have a conclusion sooner or later
Yeah I hear what you're saying and I defo can see how that can have people waiting for her to do the whole 7 parts
Great album, really fun and will be a soundtrack to my summer.
When critiquing music sometimes it's best to judge it on what the artist has tried to make, rather than something you wished they made. If she kept making Cindy mayseather music, imo, it would get played out.
This is a great album for me, filled with different types of black music that I can put on have fun to
Nah she would've continued to create some really interesting music, especially futuristic Black music.

I really like this tbf, think it's really good music

after a few listens it’s giving archandroid vibes tho. horn sections, orchestral flourishes, seamless transitions, earworm harmonies all over this. the sci-fi sound effects. production is very intricate on many songs. A dry red could be on archandroid.
that Janelle is not long gone at all lmao
she’s just experimenting with different genres this time like reggae and afrobeat
1st listen was kind of underwhelming for me. i'll have to run it back sometime this weekend.
this is the first janelle monet album ive listened to all the way through, planning on trying out archandroid in a few days once this album settles

Don't. Listen to Dirty Computer
I was just thinking today about how crazy her discog would sound if someone went Age of Pleasure -> Dirty Computer -> The Electric Lady -> The ArchAndroid
You're in a great place. Don't waste it. Trust me

isnt there some kind of narrative that flows through the albums? are you recommending that sequence narrative wise or in terms of sound?

The first two yes. If your first Janelle album is The Age of Pleasure, trust me, listen to Dirty Computer next. It's a little bit more of her personality. And then her first two are even better
