Prison also literally does not work the large majority of the time, and there are thousands of people released daily who go back to committing rapes, robberies, and gang related crimes.

Yes because the current jail system does not fix untreated mental illness, does not give offenders skills to be able to live normal lives after being locked up years, and does not offer them opportunities such as jobs that have non-slave like pay to allow them to be on a road to a better life without resorting to more crime/violence after being released.
