Man. If this remaster is pulled off correctly?!
made the hats more realistic and less crushed, unsquash those symbols at the start of thinks twice.. like in general give the instrumentals a more natural timbre, plus retaining a high dynamic range
Also I must've been too excited to read this s*** right... interpretations from AZYMUTH???

https://hiphopdx.com/news/id.58817/title.j-dillas-welcome-2-detroit-gets-20th-anniversary-box-set-after-busta-rhymes-shows-love-on-ele-2-album
Legendary producer J Dilla passed away in 2006 at the age of 32 but left behind a storied legacy. From his work with Slum Village and A Tribe Called Quest to Erykah Badu and The Roots, he left his indelible fingerprint on numerous Hip Hop masterpieces.
Even as a solo artist, Jay Deeās work set himself apart and further cemented his legendary status. Not long after one of Dillaās beats appeared on Busta Rhymesā highly anticipated album Extinction Event Level 2: The Wrath of God (on the song āStrap Yourself Downā), BBE Music has announced a special Welcome 2 Detroit box set to celebrate the projectās 20th anniversary.
According to a press release, it will include a deluxe 7ā vinyl box set boasting instrumentals, two brand new interpretations by Brazilian group Azymuth and the DJ Muro, a stash of previously unreleased alternative mixes and studio outtakes pressed over 12 discs, plus a book revealing the albumās hidden story as ātold by those who were there.ā
Originally released by BBE on February 26, 2001, Welcome 2 Detroit served as Dillaās inaugural solo album and the first project under the āJ Dillaā moniker, a nickname given to him by Busta Rhymes. Featuring 16 tracks, the album introduced the Hip Hop audience to several Motor City artists, including a pre-Slum Village Elzhi and Phat Kat.
It also sparked the producer-led Beat Generation album series, which would later spawn classic albums by DJ Jazzy Jeff, Pete Rock, DJ Spinna, Marley Marl and even will.i.am.
As Dilla said at the time, āPeter Adarkwah, founder of BBE let me do whatever I wanted to do. So, I wanted to put people on there who are gonna spit yāknow, lyrically and represent Detroit. Because I wouldnāt have been able to pull this album off if it came out under a major.
āCos theyāre not gonna let you just do a song or you canāt just do an instrumental. You gotta have this feature and youāre Jay Dee, why aināt you got Erykah Badu? Why aināt you got so and so on your album? Iād have had to go through all of that, instead of just putting outā¦yāknow, Beej on this joint!ā
While speaking to Variety about ELE 2, Busta Rhymes talked about keeping Dillaās legacy alive, a promise Bus-A-Bus made to Jay Deeās mother Ma Dukes.
āI vowed to his family, his mother and his memory to keep his name as part of the culture,ā he said. āI will always incorporate J Dilla in any recording I do. I am fortunate enough to have an incredible stash of his music and beats that he personally left with me.ā
The Welcome 2 Detroit 20th anniversary edition is expected to arrive on February 5, 2021. ā
Bro OMG I f***ing need this!!!!
Dilla one my favorite producers of all time f***!!!!

You see jazz is dead series? That azymuth one
Younge/Muhammad has won for the year, imo. In one year: Roy Ayers-Marcos Valle- Doug carn itās like a bucket list for producers but instead of samples heās recording directly with them.š³
Iām trying to think of a producer Team who sketched out a year of legends like this and.....I canāt think of anyone who lined up these unexpected names.
In some ways, I think a producer could learn from this. It is interesting the label Name is Jazz is Dead. More titles next year? š¤ Iām guessing the azymuth was not done with the original bandleader. Because he passed away. But still heās working with half the band.
To put it in perspective + 3 hours of installments. And Iām not even counting his other projects. Iām just saying the man is making history with his collabs.
Iād like to know how much is the bbe catalog worth? The name likely doesnāt ring true anymore ā barely breaking evenā
They must be doing okay if they can do special edition box sets.
You know what this reminds me of? This looks like something the great āGet on Downā Reissue limited edition label would do. In fact, the whole hip hop 7ā inch set, thatās something they would do.
except they would build like a mini strip club model with tables & a place to hold the records
This s*** is going to sell fast. The spoiled wealthy dj jet set tastemakers are going to lunge at this. letās keep it under the radar for us little people. Thatās a good question , why donāt these bums have a preorder yet? š³
BBE shouldāve made a giant hardcover Book (like with Princeās SOTT. You couldāve included lots of cool photos for the fans. I know they have the money to do that for at least a 1000. š
