Man just seeing the reaction to not only this but certain s*** in general just makes me feel like hip-hop is dead not because good hip-hop doesn't exist but because people don't understand it or appreciate it anymore unless its loud and artsy like Ye or Kendrick or catchy like Drake

Like even lukewarm reactions to some of Nas latest s*** or s*** from Griselda got me questioning weather or not niggas actually like rap

But Cole has gotten this type of reception his entire career lmao, this isn’t new for him

I agree its been like that for a while.

I was just saying people associate the term hip-hop is dead withe the lack of good rap but its The lack of excitement for good rap that actually exists that's the deadness for me

Its disappointing for me every time with every artist

nah i think the real lovers of hiphop are just what’s going to remain nowadays with the fans of what you saying either going back to the genres they actually like or further convincing themselves they like all the new loud abrasive s*** coming out of hiphop now

the ones willing to discuss projects like this or Nas’ despite their dislike, yes, it may come across as pretentious, but it’s better than memes and downplaying jokes

like i was able to talk about this project with my homie off of initial HYPE while he was downplaying everything cause it just wasn’t hitting him like it was me. we were still able to go through different records and it was really the slow moments of the album like him singing on certain songs and the 2 love songs that left a “man, i expected more than this” from him. that minor detail which is just a break in pacing can be a BIG determinant when trying to enjoy something or see it for more than just those moments which i think is what listeners today suffer from cause like someone else said, they just want that s*** to HIT or be better sequenced

Yeah I feel you I def see a lot of the "thiis ain't hit" type takes for certain projects as if they want s*** to smack them like crack to the brain immediately but for me it doesn't have to hit me that hard. Sometimes it does but a lot of times it doesn't and its a slower process of solving the Rubik's cube of different styles lyrics concepts influences etc that becomes the thing that "Hits" long term for me

Went through that process with the Nas and Preme joint and TFO for example. Hated both on first listen but as I continue to unpack and understand more I fw it and appreciate more

I know most people don't have the patience for all that they just wanna instantly like s*** but I grew up slow digesting rap, I feel like thats the only way to properly respect the genre tbh

i agree with you entirely bro. i had to listen to Magic 3 like 5 times and it’s one of my favorite projects versus KD3 people say is better and i can hear why they would say that, but the theme and direction of Magic 3 despite the music of KD3 being more expansive does it for me

I get what you mean. I think it’s disrespectful to hiphop to only give a project one listen and that be your determinant
