FHD so overrated to me lol

I mean I get why it’s hailed as a classic but I just don’t see how people feel like the rapping or production was just untoppably peak

This clears easily imo especially rap wise makes FHD raps seem like pre k lol

In most ways I prefer this, FNL and Off Season to FHD

Also an album being “consise” is overrated to me as well, just means it’s short and low on skips lol this is long and low on skips, I’ll take more music please lol

It's cus we're looking at the album as a whole. FHD his most musical albumor at least where the music and the rapping gel. Nothing on this new album comes close to Apparently or Love Yourz

the story telling is more poignant on FHD even though the rapping on Fall-Off is technically better

That's it. Fall Off has better technical rapping. That's it though

FHD production clears a lot on here. It has aged very well with the exception of maybe Hello. The album as a whole also has a heartfelt element in it that I just don't feel in TFO. That's why the singing and storytelling on there shine brighter, even if the raps aren't as good technically

Am I tripping or did he really go delete every single message people responded to? It’s a forum, tf wrong with some of you? lol

    then cocky?

-im so cool i influenced this guy who is now telling me how i changed his life at the gas station

-yes, please put on MY music videos to stop your baby crying

-everyone that wants to do smething negative should think of MEE and how IMA be dissaponted, not his father, but ME jcole the succesfull rapper

Feel like these are misreads of the respective songs lol

Quik stop for example isnt a "wow im so cool". It was about dealing with imposter syndrome and self doubt.

And Safety is written from the perspective of someone in Fayetteville telling him those things in a manner similar to STAN, not cole saying you gotta calm ur baby with my vids or don't do crime or I'll be disappointed in you

i see i see, im still not done going through the album honestly

im hearing you out ima listen again obviously

im just saying I showed my girl Quik Stop and How Much a Dollar Cost right after and she was just more moved by Kendrick’s storytelling and pacing

even though the rapping on Quik Stop is technically maybe better,

I think the rapping on How Much a Dollar Cost is way crazier than Quip Stop lmaoo I probably wouldn't have used that as an example Dot was outta here on that

But yeah you good bro enjoy the music I'm just here with my perspective chilling

    I disagree

I think what you call "heartfelt" is really just youth and nostalgia

Nigga was in his 20s rapping that dealing with a whole different set of emotions and we was all young asf listening

But in terms of heartfelt material that honestly what I love most about this project. Tons of heartfelt stuff, just with grown man emotions. Man Up Above heartfelt asf and Life Sentence is super heartfelt, a genuine tribute to his wife, long overdue. Beautiful stuff

Thats a big category though especially for an artist like J Cole where his rapping should be the selling point

This is a rappers rapper project. Like this for people who have actually rapped themselves at some point and took it serious enough to study the greats, decode flows and schemes etc and I'm definitely on that time. This is a hell of a performance from that perspective

idk FHD has many classic moments man. Fire Squad can challenge any song on The Fall-Off when it comes to perspective, technical ability, storytelling, hooks, chorus, beat transitions and the albums lose no pacing at all even when you add the new bonus songs. it actually expands the project to challenge The-Fall Off even more. keep Heaven dancing? winter wonderland? black man in Hollywood? die together?

  • Dudes just loud and ignorant in here lol

huh? are we hearing the same original key word, alliterations in the flows on this album? 50% of the fall-off is sample flows and songs we’ve heard before lmfao. like that’s awesome and a skill, but it’s a reason FHD a classic lol

    My inhibition's fightin' my intuition
Premature premonition, showin' me the demolition
Of these phony niggas, so ahead of my time
Even when I rhyme about the future I be reminiscin'
You want the truth? Well, come and listen
I'm like that time you bagged a dime and checked your phone and saw it was a number missin'
As fate passes you by, half of you try
The other half of you fried, too high to actually fly
One day y'all have to decide, who you gon' be

One thing is for sure no matter which you prefer Cole has blessed us with alot of good s***

    FNL
FHD especially now with the expansion
    The Off Season
    and now TFO

really great hip-hop all classic s***, Even if you think TFO his 2nd 3rd or even 4th best (Its 1st for me, over everything) Cole solidified his catalog with this no doubt, especially with the Blizzard tape as well gahd damn

Earned a position in my top 10 with this s*** (he was top 15 for me before this)

I know the lyrics to fire squad gang

The fact that you feel that this quote stands a chance to what he's doing on TFO either means you ain't fully digest it yet or you're gauge of skilled rapping is questionable

My dawg he rapped his whole life in reverse while rhyming each end of every bar with the word reverse on here, stop it lol

  • ryuH

Two songs better than a whole double album. Also helps the album is better too

I mean yea, reading the lyrics it sounds like he’s doing something simple but if you know the song then you know the skill it took to spit that lmfao

add on to that it’s an original flow of his is and perspective is the take home point as to why that album stands apart from The Fall-Off where most the album is sampling elements of the past and Cole said Disc 2 was a rushed process compared to Disc 1. all these details add on to the quality of The Fall-Off being there, but being able to asses why it don’t hit like FHD is fair

He's paying homage to rappers who would technically put on a better performance but it's still a technical showcase and I don't think you need to have rapped to appreciate that. But it prolly hits different if you're a musician tho.

I listen to Rap for the rapping for sure but not just that. The artistry is just not his strong suit. Imagine if Cole had the musical sensibilities of Ye >>>>>>>

FHD in that regard overall , just worked

I don't expect Ye level or even Kendrick level musicality from Cole

I think thats unfair, thats like expecting that from Nas, he's just not that and that's not why we are here lol. I don't even expect that from Hov

I feel like that type of musical talent gets taken for granted tbh like everybody should have it when in fact that s*** is once in a quarter century level genuis lmao

I think boiling it down to "youth and nostalgia" is putting it too simply. If that were the case, people would love all of Cole's early work as much as they did FHD. There's a reason why that album was different and hit the way it did. Sometimes it just can't be translated into words, it just is. It's a feeling.
