i don't mean this as an insult because I actually like J Cole quite a bit (will always stick by the unpopular opinion 4YEO is a great album, big risk, and deserves substantial respect) but in many ways this album sounds like a Logic album if Logic was more talented and had actual things to rap about. I think Cole, much like Logic, is a victim of his own ambition not matching up to expertise. There are many things Cole is very good at but you can tell he NEEDS an executive producer who severely pushes him and forces him to experiment. I really wanted to believe in him, and i don't hate this, but every time i hear an album from him I think "he could probably do better", because he himself seems to always think that
