Overall, this is still a mixed bag for me. I’m not as opposed to it as I was 10 years ago, but it’s still a pretty inconsistent listen from start to finish. I think some of his best ever songs are on here (For Whom the Bell Tolls, Change, Neighbors), and also some of his most tiring (Deja Vu, Ville Mentality, She’s Mine Pt. 2). The themes and musicality are the strongest aspects about it.
6/10
It’s a Cole album. So it’s fine.
Title track is pretty good, ties it all together nicely
one of the best storytelling rap songs ever made
Did you just say what’s the dirt? Why are you trusting him with j Cole information?
Apparently worked on TFO
niggas produced they ass off with this one
It’s probably the album that created most of the ‘fall asleep to J Cole’ talk.. but 4YEO aged extremely well
4 Your Eyez Only relisten now!
I never understood the hate for this album, but probably because it has some of my Cole favorite tracks - Neighbors, Ville Mentality, and 4 Your Eyez Only.

A lot of the hate was because Cole did the ultimate bait and switch during the rollout. Coming off of FHD he dropped Everybody Dies/False Prophets which was dissing the 2016 freshman class and Ye so people thought he was moving in that energy and 4YEO was the complete opposite
