If I had to give a slight critique, I would say that the backwards story trope is somewhat derivative.

But Cole is still spitting at a strong level and the beat is smooth.

MDL had some of Cole's best rapping but it was musically inconsistent. If Cole can do MDL level rapping with better music, it's an AOTY contender.

Cole can’t just rely on humility and skill when everyone else has to juggle all of these dynamics.

Cole needs a hit. Period.

Let me put it this way. If Cole doesn’t have a hit, he’ll have regressed IMO.

It’s not like he never had “big songs”…but he certainly needs something that has staying power. We’ve seen the rap exhibitions of skill.

I feel that but Drake instigated it by bringing up a rumor of Whitney cheating on Kendrick with Dave Free and having an illegitimate child with him.

Kendrick even told Drake not to take it there.

And Drake dared Kendrick to bring up the pedo s*** on Taylor Made which is partly why his case got dropped.

Not saying it wasn't a foul label to put on Drake but we've got to see it from both sides.
