You could say they occupy the same lane but that ain’t entirely true, Griselda and Dipset have similarities but I can’t see dudes in Dipset making songs with dudes like Mach Hommy and them the same way I can’t see Benny making a song like We Fly High or emotionless.

When Jimmy was popular he was doing songs with Trey Songz and had niggas like Young Dro on the We Fly High remix.

Dipset had more mainstream appeal than Griselda, and dudes like WSG take the street rap but mix it with a high art approach. The way WSG branded Griselda and approached their whole aesthetic is entirely different than from how Cam did it with Dipset IMO.

The main similarities they have is that they’re both from NY and rap about street s***, and even then WSG/ Griselda is from upstate NY and Cam/Dipset is from NYC. I’ve lived in both areas and even they’re different from one another

Jim jones isn't that mainstream anymore tho. Benny has been tryna move to a more mainstream so I'll give u that. But at the same time his fans have been wanting him to go back to and rehash the tt3 sound.

And conway project was only killed cause it just wasn't all that, same thing with fly god 2. But people love pray 4 paris and fktg (which is a lil more modern) but it's not like there's some crazy sonic progression with those projects compared to their older ones, which is something that cole actively gets killed for doing

Back then rappers rapped their ass off no autone melody s*** over a soulful loop and went platinum

Now s*** like that is more underground and niche.

Rap forums have become so polarizing in the past few years that discussions like this aren't even as good as they used to be.

Everybody's either GOAT or trash now. No in between. There's no room for rappers who are simply above average or who just rap about everyday life anymore.

Read my other post, I said Jim Jones is more mainstream than Benny probably ever will be. He had #1 hits and was part of a big mainstream movement.

And even then WSG’s branding and how he handles Griseldas aesthetic is more interesting to me. Cole is a solid rapper but I never really understood what he was going for as far as art direction and identity. And I’d argue Pray 4 Paris is more polished than WSG’s earlier work too

I can see if u arguing aesthetics. But the actual music itself has been more cookie cutter than Cole's for a while now.

I don't really get the art direction point, wouldn't u want his art direction to keep changing ?

Nas said Cam is talented but he dumbed it down on Come Home with Me, he said that lyrically he said nothing on that album compared to his previous works. But that was during the heat of the Nas-Roc A Fella beef.

Cole never had a solid art direction in the first place IMO, like a solid brand or something. I’m not even the biggest Drake fan at all but I get who he’s supposed to be. Same with K Dot, never felt that way about Cole.

And yea Griselda hasn’t been impressing me as of late but I really do think Pray 4 Haiti gonna be interesting
