Even listening to the Truly Yours mixtapes, the thing that hits me listening to them is that you can still hear Cole’s hunger to succeed in the verses, there’s an intensity level that’s kept up throughout those whole projects.

But the problem is eventually an artist gets to the level of success that s they always wanted and it starts to show in their art. I feel like that started for Cole with FHD.

It’s not like other artists are impervious to it. For Drake, it came with Views. S*** felt like he was just taking a victory lap with that project and he wasn’t really aiming at something. And Drake’s been’s searching for it ever since.
