Putin's taken heavy losses and Ukraine is holding up plenty strong. No incentive on either side for a diplomatic solution right now. Putin won't make peace without keeping Crimea + the two eastern provinces for political reasons/saving face, and Ukraine has held them off well enough to not need to succumb to that.

You can criticize US' horrible foreign affairs over the past 80 years without blaming them for a genocidal dictatorship invading another nation.
