I wish these people could see the invoices. like how Akademiks said Meek doesn't f*** with him, but he's signed deals to promote artists on his page who are signed to Meek. Probably Vory. An AK post (not the ones random underground artists buy that are obvious promo, but the ones designed not to look as much like promo) alone is probably $25k or something
the shade room isn't really used for music marketing (it's moreso used for Fashionnova) but if y'all knew how much a post there cost you'd lose it (and most folks buy a package deal)
i always wondered about akademiks promos so this was cool to hear. some of his posts are blatantly obvious that they are paid promos while other's, not as much

the blatant promos aren't as expensive, which is why local guys can afford them
but the ones that are designed to not look like promos (but still kind of look like promos)... if I had to guess... based on what somewhere like The Shade Room charges (although they advertise fashion and TV shows and stuff)... I'd say like $20k to $30k for a post? Maybe $15k?
I ain’t watch but 150k is optional. You don’t need 150k to get poppin
The 150K is just a figure. For some acts it's more than that, for some it's less.
The whole point is that everything costs, and costs a lot.
From recording, to purchasing beats, hiring a manager, hiring a tour manager, artwork, merch, lawyer, music videos, online content, outfits, online promotion across social media.
It's all optional, but if you truly want to up your chances of popping you either 1) Have the money for all of this s***, 2) Have enough clout to where you don't have to spend as much or 3) Cut corners, and that lessens your chances of this music s*** working out.
How much money do you think it would take rn to get an act popping?
You spitting
Even the stuff under your nose like what you mentioned cost.
lol yeah I can tell from ur posts that u have worked in the industry. it's like speaking a foreign language
a post on the shade room is like $9k - $15k. and most folks do a package deal which can get the per post price down, but you're spending six figures over the course of months or a year
I'd love to know what Ak or Saycheese or No Jumper charge for a post. stuff like that is where this $150k can go
mhmm interesting. also if an artist drops a song or project and wanted to dominate the charts for x amount of weeks, is there a ceiling for their budget ? or can they keep paying to get playlisted, thus remaining on the charts for however long they wish.
olivia rodigo for example, how she just popped off and did drake/ariana numbers even though she's a new talent. i know she has a disney background which gave her the connections, but is payola what's making her dominate the charts like that ? i'm just tryna understand

after i made this post i peeped this thread right after. what do you think about it? the pop industry is a lot different than rap i imagine, but after seeing this thread i'm assuming there's a formula for all these pop artists? @knockknockwhoitis
the numbers she's pulling still doesn't make sense to me. idk if it's genuine support from her fans or the machine behind her is just that strong
Niggas need 150k just to blow
I’ll give you a buck fifty and pull the K out at your show

I've done some management work, and like, my neighbor is Dom Kennedy's manager. I've seen it first hand.
I've seen rappers literally sell IG stories for promo for like 2 bands 😭
To be fair, not every post from Saycheese or Ak charges. If you've got juice in your city and are really popping, he / they may do it off the muscle. But some are just blatantly obvious. Like Worldstarhiphop back in the day lol
It's kind of nuts when you truly break down how much everything materially cost.
From experience, the easiest way to get around this s*** is by having clout in your city. Some have clout because they're just popular, some are like known gang members in their city, whatever. The more clout you have, the less you have to pay because then it becomes beneficial for that PR firm to f*** with you, it becomes beneficial for that brand to work with you, etc.

Half the SoundCloud era blew up first THEN went and signed. Nobody hiring a tour manager or lawyer before already breaking through
that puts it into perspective then. so basically all these artists are just packaged deals created by the suits. them disney stars would have a better shot at going major than some random act, kinda f***ed up but the game is the game

You THINk they blew up then signed.
That's the funny part lol
You think they just threw the record on SC and it just went crazy? Really? Lol
People literally hire firms to make records go viral on platforms like that.

there are definitely streaming farms, but Rodrigo could have just hit a very particular teen / pre-teen nerve that resonated well

Oh this a conspiracy thread lmfaooooo
there are confirmations online that drake wasn't "unsigned" during part of the speculation of where he'd sign
several "unsigned" acts are actually signed, but don't announce because it hurts the fantasy people like you have in your head

This is such an awful take I had to make an account just to tell you dawg lmao

not a conspiracy at all. Wendy Day herself, the woman who's in the OP and a veteran in the music industry confirmed that he was signed long before they announced it.

"The only thing I remember about the Drake deal is it was actually already signed when he was doing interviews about where he should sign," she explained. "When he signed to Aspire, to Lil Wayne, the deal was already done when the Source magazine and XXL were talking about where should he sign
The biggest rapper in the game blew up off of myspace
lmao u didn't name 5 tho
