You can do anything in today’s internet world.
If you have good music bundled with some great art you can do it. The hardest part is taking it to the internet and getting it to be played, but with some smart marketing you can do it. Once you get a fairly small buzz, you just gotta continue to push out great content.
Obviously it would be easier on a 100k+ budget, but it’s not impossible to do it with less than 1000$.
All of these artists have management, publicists, families, they've got to record, producers and beats, music videos, outfits for the music videos, social media,
Like, do people think this s*** happens by osmosis and that it's free lol?
Or do you actually believe rappers and artists when they say they just dropped a hot song on soundcloud and it just 'blew up'
i feel like @op is talking about street rappers like NLE, YB etc. You need studio time, advertising, beats, MV shoots etc. to even get your name out there.
tyler had like 10 projects before he had any sort of buzz, but X is a good example of the internet blowing an artist up, its happening with ssgkobe & sofaygo rn
I might be mistaken but didn't NLE break out with one song?

None of it is impossible.
But great art? Cost money
Smart marketing? Cost money
Pushing out great content? Cost money
This is why the rappers you see that are popping, are popping because they were popular in their cities first. They had a name in their city because they were gang bangers, had money, clout, etc.
Going from 0 to a full fledged rap career is almost impossible.
Listen up hoe, da swag comes from us, it’s a setup, the media is controlled by certain races/groups of people
inorder to go viral u have to go thru the white man, you not allowed to just post whatever u want on the internet either da Internet not free as portrayed
The people who disagree with this are ignorant. Same as people who can't see how the education system, news media, etc. are compromised and nowhere near as clean/respectable as they'd like to have us believe. They've drank the proverbial Kool-Aid, if you will.
You can do it without. But it is just so difficult to get an artist on a grassroots movement
Yup.
Don't get caught in the weeds. I say this as someone who seriously dabbled in the management side of things. I've had to break this down to indie acts before lol
"could" someone just post their music on social media and it goes viral and they become popular and record labels flock to them? Sure.
But it almost never happens that way. Everything costs, literally everything. And it's exacerbated even more if you're not already popular in your city as a known entity or someone with clout.
all it takes is a cell phone, a laptop, and talent. a lot of people have the first two. but Clairo has more of the last one in her pinky toe than most people have in their entire body
I think another important one is "mental discipline". Russ recently put out a book called "its all in your head" and he said that if you allow the opinions of others to affect you, you will always lose.
The biggest rapper in the game blew up off of myspace
he literally got Wayne on his mixtape that blew him up lol

He was buzzing before that
I might be mistaken but didn't NLE break out with one song?
you talking about Shotta Flow? I would imagine that would have still cost a lot of money for the MV, studio time, advertisement. Also the song was followed by a remix featuring Blueface shot by Lyrical Lemonade. not sure how organic that was but it definitely took a lot of dirty money to get NLE to where he is now
The idea that people can just drop a hot record on tik Tok and it just 'blows up' tells you everything you need to know about the business tbh
It don't work like that lol
It is very hard to make a living as a rapper if you don't have money to start your career. It's almost impossible.
Nigga nobody is saying money is no object . You don’t need 100k to make it as a rapper in 2021. You are quite literally living in the first and only era in human history where you can literally create a number 1 song in your f***ing basement that you made with less than $2000 worth of equipment and a distro account.
The biggest rapper in the game blew up off of myspace
And this is the point.
he did not "blow up" off myspace
He was already a household name due to Degrassi and was a very popular guy around Toronto. He was popping. That's how J Prince found him in the first place.
The whole point is, the less clout you have the more money you need to spend.

I wouldn’t use the world clout
I would say if you don’t have a strong network of people with knowledge and resources then you better have money

How many acts making records that big with that little resources? Honestly?
I'm not saying it can't happen I'm saying it's pretty unlikely.

It’s not impossible. It’s very difficult but not impossible.
You can go to Reddit and find places that will do your artwork for cheap and be great quality for less than 250.
By marketing I mean going to places like creative sxn and other forums were people are interested in up and coming acts. Not just uploading to YouTube and hoping it blows up some day.
The most difficult and costly part would be the recording process whether you go to a studio or you buy a mic and do it from your bedroom. Plus the audio mixing and everything else.
It’s not impossible, it’s not probably gonna happen in 6 months, but if you grind and continue to grow as an artist it can be done it just takes tons of discipline and patience, which in today’s time is limited.
I wouldn’t use the world clout

Nah it's clout. Clout, fame, network of important people, I mean it's all the same s***.
Clout = popularity. Popularity = mass amounts of people digesting your content = being able to monetize content = boom, a career.
