Hormuz blockage was always going to be the result of enhanced US strikes on Iran. That’s why for years we (and US planners) only feared about it in this exact type of scenario. It’s defensive and a reaction to utilize real leverage that can (and did) bring US to the table

We’ll see what happens this week. Unlikely Trump gets freedom of navigation in Hormuz is he’s unwilling to send ships in it or fight for it and sanctioned Chinese tankers are still paying tolls and navigating

Iran still wants to take care of itself first before worrying about every other country in the region as well. If Israel is letting up on Iran then it will take the temporary peace

US is an oil producer and seller. It’s not relying on this in the same way its allies are.

Hormuz toll alone leaves Iran as a regional security power and there’s no way to stop this short of US fighting for the seas itself. An argument over rebuild costs isn’t really meaningful cus that’s not the point.

Iran stopped last year and US and Israel just rebuilt for a new war. That’s why they went for Hormuz this time because it’s real leverage that is shaping US decision making as we see. We’re past the point of quick back downs
