I honestly just think TDE doesn't pressure artists to drop at all. The formula of not dropping trash and having the hype build up over time works really well. If Isaiah Rashad was dropping every year none of us would be checking for him anymore tbh

This is a ridiculous take. You really think dropping once a year is too much? How did Jay Z do it then? You can absolutely drop consistently and still have hype, it just depends on your arrangement with the label and your work ethic obviously. I think the idea that "hype" needs to be done over time is an idea TDE has fed its fanbase to believe as the norm when it's not.

what would be wrong with dropping even a tape or EP though?

I think that would be fine if it was clear that he was dropping soon. Like I said they tried by dropping singles that one year. I don't think people are really looking for Rock rn and honestly TDE's formula and the way they go about releasing music is really dumb.

THIB better than TST Cilvia a top 8 tde project kenny included

THIB being better than TST is a ludicrous take. But I can't argue if that's what you prefer sonically.

Okay but me and you both know he could drop once every two years and the only reason he's not is because of TDE. Same goes for most of the artists on that label. 5 years a pop is insanity.

Lol okay. I'll continue believing that rap artists need 5 years to drop their albums. I'm not saying there are times when they share their personal struggles in the middle of it all but yes TDE is what's holding these guys back. This is Punch and Top at work. Can't convince me otherwise. Do you honestly believe that for the type of music they make, Isaiah Rashad or Schoolboy Q need 5 years to make their music? Are you really that gullible? Please

I believe making music is not their primary focus lol. No I don't think they work on one album for 5 years, I think TDE just doesn't force them to release some bullshit just for the sake of dropping something

THIB took five years because he relapsed and went to rehab bro

It’s also insane because why would TDE purposely make less money?

We have so many labels forcing artists to drop slop constantly, but now a label lets artists take their time and it’s an issue

most people don’t want to take 5 years to do anything but life happens man lmfao

Kendrick was ready to drop an album then Nipsey died then writers block then covid. s*** happens that artists can’t control that throws them off their intended plans entirely

There’s simply too much good music in this world to grow so impatient over one artist not releasing music that you project your own expectations on the artist and the label

Yep and TDE is an indie, family run label at the end of the day they’re not gonna be on their artists’ asses unless it’s for their own good (SZA’s hard drives, Zay’s rehab)

Consumerist mindset? I mean, if that's what you think, that's cool. This can lead to a rabbit hole that I don't wanna go into.

  • I think the culture around music has changed so people's relationship around the musicians and art they make has also changed. To me at least, it is not out of the ordinary to expect music from people who make music for a living. Obviously they're not robots but I don't think some people understand how rare it is for someone to be an artist and release that music 5 years at a time. I haven't lost sight of their humanity either. S***, most of us has become fans because of the content of the music. I obviously want the best for them or whatever. I just believe TDE's holding them back. That was my MAIN point.

Just got the Zay text. There's an IG page that I'm assuming has all the people who will be collaborators for the album in the stories.

Either that, or just labelmates doing their job and generating buzz. Kinda hoping this is the case cause I saw Lexa Gates and I am not tolerating this corny white girl rapping with a monotone flow bullshit.
