But he says that the most important thing he did was learn to freestyle, for which he credits the producer Kenny Beats, who he calls his “rap coach.” Liberated from the laborious process of writing in his phone, Rashad absorbed the wisdom of the neon mantra hanging in The Cave, Beats’ studio: “Don’t overthink s***.”
