  • friend and i having a debate he said a shirt with any type of religious figures on it is offensive like no shirts with jesus or buddha or muhammad or whatever should exist because it’s profiting off religion which is kinda s***ty. im saying as long as it respectful to the people it’s fine

this is the shirt that brought it up btw i think it’s not hurting anyone

  • I’ll be honest man, if you live in the West no one is going to chastise you for this unless you live in deep Bible Belt or some s*** like rural Poland

Religion has already been pretty much commodified for the majority of people. Islam maybe less since drawing the Prophet alone is still heavily scrutinized in the ummah

i do think it’s kinda lame but i don’t see it as offensive unless you’re depicting them doing something they’re against in which case it’s just disrespectful

Well for starters depictions of Muhammad of any sort are strictly discouraged by the vast majority of Muslims. I think that would be offensive if not intentionally provocative

Other cases I don't really see it as such. I don't think most people wearing them have bad intentions so i wouldn't label it "offensive"

My issue sometimes, particularly with Jesus, is that the stereotypical image that's cemented of him is likely so far off accuracy that it feels like it borders on idolatry. Thats a different convo tho...

Not necessarily religious but I remember people on Ktt arguing over this about being offensive and “god wants you” with a skeleton wearing a Native American headpiece etc

My only association with religion is on an aesthetic level

I have a Jesus painting hanging in my room cause I think it looks creepy

    profiting off religion is corny

    drawing religious figures is corny

just use something else, there’s so much available that doesn’t have to profit off of God especially if it’s not done to glorify him but lace your pockets
