The only people who say 2000s rap was mid are people who’s first album was Rodeo

For real. These kids act as though Soulja Boy and Mims went Diamond in the 2000's or some s***.

Tons of great rappers like Eminem, Wayne, Ye, 50, Game, TI, Jeezy, Camron, Lupe etc. were topping the charts and selling well.

This is the worst era I’ve lived thru for sure, but also that’s apart of getting old. You’ll always value the music you grew up on more.

  • Mar 10, 2022

And let me clarify that I listen to plenty of songs from newer rappers and you can check my posting history and see that I've never hopped on hate bandwagons against any of them.

I recognize that Lil Baby is great for this era and he can kill features. I know Rod Wave got great emotion and melodies. I know Carti is super creative and consistent. I know Durk had one of the greatest comebacks in hip hop.

Mainstream rap today has its own greatness. I just don't think the greatness compares to the greatness from previous eras. And it's not an age thing per say cause I think Kendrick and Earl are better than many rappers from the 90's.

It's okay if that was your least favorite era but there's no way 20's hip hop is comparable to the 2000's.

There was a thousand times more diversity in the 2000's than today. Even rappers who were called "remedial" by hip hop purists back then like Jeezy could spit a solid 16 verse.

Like there's no comparison. Even a nigga like Lupe was able to carve out a lane in that era while Cordae flopped and is no where near as talented despite having that "conscious/safe" marketing.

As a hip hop fan whose two favorite projects are The Ecstatic by Mos Def and Yeezus by Ye, my sensibilities tend to skew towards genre blending stuff, and in that respect the stuff from the 10s appeals to be more than the 00s. Too early for me to say how the 20s will be.

Ah okay. If you mean 2010's hip hop, I can sorta see that.

The mid 00s and late 10s are neck to neck for. Worst eras. Idk about the 20s but I hope for better things.

    So it’s between 2005-2009 and 2015–2019

(And I’m not saying good things didn’t come out of these years, it just wasn’t the best eras)

    15-18 were nonstop great albums

2019 was the only real year without a hitter

    I blame the big 3

Drake plateauing creatively one of the most disappointing things of the decade so far, was looking him to carry the first few years of the 20s with some late career classics like Hov did with Blueprint and Black Album in the early 00s. Instead we got CLB which wasn’t terrible but it was definitely disappointment.

Kendrick disappearing was also a big L for the 2020s. He pretty much set the bar for quality in the 10’s so without him it feel like the game in disarray, way less quality control. Cole working and he been spitting but he plateaud creatively too tbh. Doesn’t seem like he’s ever going to make any major leaps forward.

They left the game to kids

and this generation of kids while talented just doesn’t give af nearly as much as previous generations did

The best music is still coming from older acts that have been stars for ages. All the new acts aren’t/won’t stick

  • Mar 10, 2022

Definitely the worst era. I don’t see how you Niggas can’t see that. There’s a lot of good music out there but nothing groundbreaking or stand out.

This is tru too. Established artist are delivering but new artist are either non existent or wack overall
