na, infinity war is f***ing crazy

It’s not tho, what’s your reasoning for saying it is beyond it being more “lowbrow” as a comic booky adventure MCU film?

    • The pacing is perfect (has to be edited extremely well and sharply written for this to be the case btw)
    • the protagonist/antagonist dynamic does what a protagonist/antagonist dynamic should do
    • Thanos is always engaging and an extremely impactful driving force in the story
    • the plot is tightly structured
    • the setups and payoffs are highly satisfying and there’s a plethora of memorable lines of dialogue
    • Plus the acting in its juggernaut of a cast is on point for every single character
    • Motivations are clear and it’s an emotional rollercoaster
    • the cinematography and aesthetic of the film is absolutely gorgeous (one of the rare MCU films you can say that about)

How isn’t it up there with the best of em when all this applies?

The dark knight trilogy should not be the foundation for most DC movies. That thinking is the root of the mess that DC has been in for the last ten years now. Not every character has to be darker and realistic

the mess DC has been in is because they've done a s***ty job trying to recreate the feeling of that trilogy. the dark knight shoulda been the foundation of the DC cinematic universe.

I'd argue quite a few superhero movies would benefit from taking themselves more seriously.

I've said this before in another thread but what Heath does at around 4:20 lives in my mind rent free. Perfect acting

    The Dark Knight
    Winter Soldier
    Infinity War
    Spiderverse
    Spiderman 2
    Logan

All very solid picks. Wouldn't be mad at someone saying any of them are the GOAT, but I think personally I rank the first 3 slightly higher than the bottom three

Not really a fair comparison I mean how much did Batman really help people in batman begins? Only the ending which is the same as the new Batman

Batman saves the entire city from annihilation in Batman Begins. The city is not successfully flooded with fear toxin by Ra's al Ghul.

Batman saves like a handful of people from drowning in The Batman. The city is still successfully flooded by Riddler.

It’s up there with Spider-Man 2, X-Men 2, Infinity War/Endgame, Batman and Man of Steel.

That’s been DC’s problem. It turns cringey when you try to put that tone in anywhere but Gotham

They never figured out how to be realistic without being dark lol. The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

One of the main reasons why TDK works so well is because it’s more than just a great superhero film, it’s just a great film period

If you removed all Batman references from the movie, it would still be a phenomenal crime drama

  • Apr 21, 2023

Probably yeah and Begins is in the top 1%

Dark Knight Rises is a mess though

Batman style and realism shouldn't be the foundation for an entire universe it isn't even the standard for his own always.

Those films pulled from very specific stories and usually out of continuity arcs for a specific three film experience.

Using that as the basis for other characters or universes is the malpractice that's lead to things like asking Christopher Nolan to pick the crew for a Superman film.

A film being serious or unserious shouldn't matter the quality should be the mark of it and if you go in using tone to dictate story instead of story dictating tone then your film is prolly gonna fail.

This obsession with either making everything MCU or super dark and serious Nolan is why these films aren't good right now.

    Stop boxing storytelling
