That's not dumb, that's historically how a lot of consoles have been launched. It's a race to sell more consoles at a break even or even loss so that they can sell software for the next few years. Playstation plus, games, ps now, gamepass, xbox live ect how they make money, not just hardware sales
If you look at the individual parts of the console and their prices they definitely make very minimal profit or at a loss for now.

Why are you denying a fact lol, they sold ps4 at a decent loss at launch. Ps5 probably sells very close to what they make it for. The profit isnt from the hardware it's from the software.
