100k is not enough to do more than support a family for a large portion of the US

You can support a family but you won’t have anything for emergencies, vacations, generational wealth, college, etc.

If you’re double income it’s more than possible. I agree you can’t support a family on 100k solo but you can definitely live comfortably off 100k in 99% of the country. We all know the places it isn’t possible but those are outliers

That ties in with the poor choices bit. Do not have kids unless you’re financially ready and unless it’s with a partner you trust.

Two people with fairly normal jobs making 160-200k HHI will have their fam comfortable

This is a fundamentally antisocial attitude you’re imposing on people

The idea that people should instead consider
    • moving away from their families and communities
    • living in dogshit places
    • having both parents work instead of commit to raising their family,
    • abstaining from having families all together

to make ends meet, and that failing to do otherwise is some failure on the individual and not larger societal conditions is really just falling into the capitalist rat-race mentality that got us here in the first place

when I grew up hearing that I’d have to “make sacrifices to raise my family” I thought it would be selling off my 68 mustang or spending less time backpacking.

I didn’t think it would involve uprooting myself from where my whole family lives or working to the point that I’d never see my kids

People would rather believe aliens are real than the fact that the entire world system is created for the specific purpose of immiserating their lives and extracting all possible life forces out of them from the moment they’re born until the day they die

people have always done this for all of history?

that’s why immigrants exist and “working to send money back home” is a normal thing within poorer families lol. especially when your family already comes from a poor area with basically zero opportunity. I know my dad had to live away from his mom with extended family as a kid just to go to school cause they were so poor. that’s just reality, they didn’t choose to be poor but had to rise up from it or we’d still be poor/broke today like a lot of my extended family who never made the same sacrifice still are and we take care of

I’m not broke because a random person in another country posted on a dying Kanye fan forum and convinced me to buy ethereum after I lost money on crypto in the past.

I’m not broke because when I got out of school I moved in with my brother while I found a job and his neighbor died and their kids didn’t have the money or time to deal with the house so they sold it to me at a really good deal without getting a realtor involved

I’m not broke, and am alive, because my friends and family helped me in my struggle to get sober.

    damn

    s*** got me tearing up

for most people the answer is yes. it's not hard to be relatively successful in this country and most people could earn 100-250k with moderate ease if they made better choices in life

I'm not sure how to fix it either. I personally did 90% of my research and future planning on my own thanks to the internet and I made sure I didn't go to college and waste my time and rack up debt for a degree that wasn't going to have me set

Absolutely not lol. Half of America can barely function as an adult, no chance they can make 100k+ with ease.

they mostly have themselves to blame is what I'm saying. there are few circumstances where someone is legitimately destined for failure with no way out in this country

in fact you could pretty much completely f*** around for all of primary education and still come out on top by the time you're 25

my entire upbringing was surrounded by poverty and I know plenty of people who made it out by their mid 20's and I know plenty of people still stuck living check to check at wack job. it mostly comes down to the choices a person makes
