Dec 25, 2025It’s just pseudo intellectual Reddit talk. Hip hop is electronic if all you’re thinking about is the process of making a track but they don’t have much in common besides that. Music is about the sounds, not how you’re making those sounds.

In fact, even guitar rock is electronic music because the guitarists use amplifiers to create a different sound than the one of an acoustic guitar. However, if you look at the historic trajectory of electronic music, then definitely no. there are overlaps tho and it takes influences (early hip hop used to be very influenced by electro and of course sample usage, drum beats). Then again, what do you make of The Roots?

Hip Hop Music was created with electronic instruments (drum machines, samplers, turntables) it wasn’t birthed as a genre that was played with ‘actual’ instruments.
At the beginning House Music & Hip Hop Music was very intertwined.
Hip Hop itself is a culture that includes the following elements:

Graffiti
Emcee
BreakdancingThe DJ’s & Emcees created Hip Hop Music, the DJ then got replaced by the Producer/Beat Maker to continue the growth of the genre.
