I used to feel this way about Drake and artists in general.
I get it. Drake tries to come off as being his 'true self' in his music, but that isn't the case. He's only showing you what he wants us to see. And in some cases exaggerating or straight up lying about stuff.
But it's just music and entertainment at the end of the day. It's not real life like we want it to be. The sooner we accept this the sooner you'll be less pressed about what Drake does and how he carries himself etc.
Yall sound like high school kids talking about the popular kids when you type s*** up like this talking about what he did during lock down and his child's hair, like seriously? Why the f*** do you care?
Just enjoy the music for what it is. Stop acting like it's a simulation of real life.
love this take and totally agree with you for the most part, unfortunately this is rap, and its what he wanted to be apart of ever since Wayne took him under.
You can't be a rapper and pillow talk straight lies, carry yourself like a weakling, and expect respect.
This is the same guy that most of you on here compare or even say he surpassed Ye, Diddy, Jay. So how can you say that exaggerating and straight up lying in his lyrics makes him surpass 3 men who put it all out there in his lyrics.
ON TOP OF THAT the ghostwriter Quentin Miller just got a feature on T.I. or some recent popular artists album. So how much is Drake really respected? Especially when his admitted Ghostwriter still out in the open securing bags?

I think you see it from the perspective of drake as an Entertainer/Actor which is fine. But Music and Rap in general is a different ballgame, you already see Kanye acting out cause he feels he may be killed for trying to get his masters back.
This is Drakes first semi-independent release. This is real life. I thnk most of you see it through the same lens as him which is this is all acting/entertainment. But the business side is no joke, and we all know that Drake has a lot of hands in his pot. He cannot afford to tank with this album, and part of not tanking would mean being culturally relevant to the times we are in, not the times he wants us to have.
He doesn’t do it because United States culture drives his fan base and he probably doesn’t personally identify with most of the s*** going on out here because they politics is different. In order to avoid gaffs and just generally being criticized for saying stupid s***/speaking on s*** he don’t know nothing bout he treats his political views just like his beef: adresses it in subliminals.
Also to add all the artist OP named were made in the USA. Drake the first black non-USA citizen to take over American culture. (Beatles and other English bands did the same s*** in the 60s but he’s the first Black person I can think of that completely dominated US culture, correct me if I’m wrong)

Ye, Jay, and Diddy have all lied and have had ghost writers. Lol Lupe Fiasco had ghost written for all three.
I'm telling you rap is more entertainment than real life lol. Niggas start off being genuine but after they blow up they do whatever makes them money while trying to maintain their public image
Drake doesn't own any of us s***. If you're tired of him not doing the things you feel he should be doing, supporting him in any way. It ain't that hard, lmao.
Why do y’all have an issue when people want Drake to do more with his platform?
If it was up to ktt none of these artists would step up for a greater cause because “they don’t owe us anything”.

He should do it because he wants to not because we had pitchforks at the ready and forced him to do so
He should do it because he wants to not because we had pitchforks at the ready and forced him to do so
So are you saying he should want to or people should only want him to if he wants to?
everybody know Drake is immune to criticism
since all the basic chicks like his music dudes have to shut up and not say s***, lol

Lol y’all are so weak it’s funny. He should want to since he want to be a part of this culture so bad. He want a hand in everyone’s culture, well he should be first in line wanting to make social changes. Just having a powerful figure speaking up and bringing awareness could go so far. He have the influence, it’s just he’s choosing money over humanity.

I'm saying that he should do whatever he feels is right and thatothers should not be too pressed that he doesn't address things in music especially considering what he does outside it

He does it outside of music tho. Y'all are just taking issue that he doesn't have a song about it

Barely tho lol. If he did half the work as Kenny and Cole outside the music I’d give it to you but he don’t be in the trenches putting in work like that.

Honestly, Drake not speaking about black issues or any issue right now is a problem. See how all the posters flew over my posts to say some stupid s***?
Someone said something about speaking on it when he wants to not when theres pitchforks at him and about how he adresses it subliminally. That just shows you that hes not allowed to talk about these things, yet most of you on here want to say how hes Black and how cool his sons braids are.
That boy gonna be lost forever with a father who ignores his blackness at all cost, then put his son in braids, say “mandem” and take a picture outside a beef patty spot like it means anything
You say hes immune to criticism but social issues/LIFE issues which he avoids is the one criticisim that will wash him and because of the timing of everything this year, if he dont talk about it hes gonna get seen as insensitive.
Take this as him trying to face his fears of being realand honest lol
In conclusion lol, this summarizes that his core fanbase are white americans, even non-american white people can get behind civil issues and talk about real-life issues.
He simply does not want to give up his white-suburban fanbase that are questioning their own racist behavior. If Drake gives off a hint of blackness this album then poof they’re gone, hence why you have him proposing this soft lover boy image. Couple years back when it was IYRTITL season he def had all the darkskin niggas shooting at the camera lens with their hands and hood niggas in look alive. Guess its time to ditch that so his fanbase dont get it twisted
you think you slick putting Kendrick and not Eminem
I actually forgot to put Eminem, but he can also be included. There are many who can be included in OP, that's the sad part.
No I don't care.
Yes I do think people would view him much more favorably. Because you're always looked upon better if your social/political.
Yes I do think Drake avoided these topics for his career. But also just for the simple fact that he's an obvious outlier in the hip hop community and people have done a good job of not letting him forget it. The lightskin black jew who was on degrassi and lived in an affluent neighborood isn't going to be able to resonate with black americans who are experienced racism, poverty etc. That isn't to say Drake hasn't also experienced those, because if you're a hardcore fan you'd know he also has. But the vast majority of people see him as how I described him earlier: lightskin black jew who was on degrassi and lived in an affluent neighborood.
Thank you for being one of the few people not in their feelings and actually answered the question without being a ho about it.
I swear it was not difficult
maybe he should make a song or two about what’s going on right now , but he is the least ? No that would be Biggie . Drake got a few songs where he talk about s*** and has donated several times to black causes whereas Biggie was killed before we ever got a chance to see what he would’ve done . But do I care if Drake does it , sure it would be interesting.
Biggie has multiple songs on Life After Death and Ready to Die highlighting the black struggle and crack destroying black communities. Yes, it does also come from his perspective of being a crack dealer, but to act like Biggie has never spoken about certain topics is pretty wack. Especially since his career was cut very short.

Aww
Crazy how this has 6 likes when it’s mostly wrong. Ktt is so stupid lmao
This is what you get when your s*** gets moved to the Drake sxn. Drake d***riders and/or cacs who have no idea what the f*** they are talking about. Man really said "Mike = GOAT no overt sociopolitical content". If he's saying Mike as in Michael Jackson that dude is an absolute f***in moron.
Y'all are REALLY this mad Drake won't rap about social issues to make y'all feel better about being fans of his music? Couldn't be me

Y’all are more defensive about him not rapping about social issues than others are critical.
Y’all even go as far as to disrespect half of the genre by referring to it as “trauma p***”

Because it is. How hard is it for people to understand that some people simply won't make songs about the black struggle or social justice issues? Drake is not that artist. The same can be said about dozens of other black mainstream rappers but y'all don't have any of this energy for them. Y'all save it for the person y'all remember is biracial, Jewish and Canadian whenever y'all feel like it.
Nothing will change if Drake raps about social issues the same way nothing has changed as he doesn't rap about it. Deal with it and move on. Criticizing him at this point of his career is foolish.
