Forget Donald for a minute. I’m still stuck on the fact that y’all really put Drake in the A range as far as technical rapping

I don’t think there was ever a period in time where people were attracted to Kanye West albums primarily for his lyricism

I’d say people were definitely attracted to his lyricism during Colo Drolo and Late era, it’s literally his most well known verses without the music. most people can rap them first 3 songs on Late if they were Ye fans without the music behind it lmao

He’s more charismatic and humorous too

Yeah I think Ye’s best aspect as an MC has always been his delivery and mic presence, that’s what’s kept him listenable even when the decline lyrically and flow-wise started to kick in

This is not recency bias. Drake has never been a A range rapper. You guys are just trying to lower the bar dude. I never see y’all give this much love to niggas like Wale or even Cole.

Not primarily but he is a cut above them bc he would have certain albums where the lyricism would really step up

LR & MBDTF maybe just those two but his lyricism was really on point for both

Right, but I don’t think it was ever the primary draw for a new Kanye West album

Those are probably his only two albums where I’d give him an A+ on the lyrical front

If lyricism was a tier list Id say Drake is overall a B tier who is A tier when hes in his bag

    How is he not lmao

    He’s great at wordplay

Can flow on literally any production

    Cadence is pristine

    Quotables for days

The only thing I’d knock him for is that in recent years he’s become too reliant on simple similes for punchlines

If those albums were average production wise they wouldn’t be regarded as classics, he’s not a Nas-type

Drake being at a B in terms of rap ability seems...extremely fair?

I don't know man lol when I'm thinking A-A+ rappers I'm thinking of niggas like: Sean Price, Big Boi, Andre 3000, Jay Z, DOOM, Nas, Scarface, Jay Z, Mos Def, Ghostface, Phife Dawg.

And if we're talking more modern/contemporary: Danny Brown, Conway, Earl, Action Bronson, Boldy James, Freddie Gibbs, Lupe, Blu, Ab-Soul, Big KRIT, Mick Jenkins

Drake ain't rapping better than any of these niggas on a technical level. Sure he's a better song maker. But we talking straight up raps? Drake ain't touching these bonafide A+ cats with them basic ass bars man knock it off lmao
