once again no proof but they def went all in on hooking em on all types of d**** when he started doing all that anti bush anti government s***. the quality of his output has absolutely nosedived since then and afterwards he could only focus on keeping himself together as a person and not larger politics except maybe throwing jabs at easier targets such as trump

That 106 & Park interview with Em and 50 from like 2006 is kinda sad to see today cause you can visibly see the d*** addiction there. And 50 was helping Em not black out.

I think Proof dying played a bigger role than Bush though.

I don’t think his race had anything to do with his success

    And the conversation stops here

Drake, Ye, Jay definitely sold far more than half of what Em did so that’s a lie

Theres no way that person believes race hasnt been a factor in eminems success.

Even this decade NF, Suicideboys, Jelly Roll. Have all had success due to whiteness without being accepted by hiphop.

Comparing Eminem to any of those artists isn’t even a good faith argument now you’re just listing white people lol. None of those people come close to Eminem in skill or success so the argument is pointless

Eminem drops this bar to pander to the hip-hop community for his white guilt and now you guys try to use it as a “gotcha” for every time this argument brought up, it’s hilarious

I think you can admit Eminem is as big as he is with the help that he’s white and also recognize he possesses once in a lifetime music making ability tbh

It is because whiteness is what propelled them to the level of success they had.

Do you think Eminem would do the same numbers if he looked like Jayz?

I think if Jay-Z made 8Mile or wrote Lose Yourself it would be just as fire. As far as numbers go I don't see why arguing some hypothetical race swap is even a valid conversation, there's so many factors at play.... But yes being white has boosted his numbers but there are Black rappers who have reached similar heights so I don't even know why we act like Jay wouldn't be able to do the same numbers given he released the same discography as Eminem

Idk man, we're literally arguing a hypothetical reality

and keeping it real with you I think SuicideBoys actually makes some decent s*** and I didn't even know they were white until later on lol...

I don’t think his race had anything to do with his success

Some of his subject matter does change for sure if he wasn’t white and that could impact how big some of his songs got but like ultimately he got there based on his talent and songwriting. If anything, him being a white rapper likely made it harder for him to be taken seriously when he was trying to make it. Even Dre admitted he was told by execs and his friends to not sign Em because of his race

Ur just f***ing racist or dumb if you think being white didn’t help Eminem

it’s not racism or being dumb. Though you are definitely an idiot for thinking hip hop benefits white people as if the top 10 best selling rappers aren’t all black besides Em.

This is as dumb an argument as saying Jokic won his MVPs because he’s white

Obviously it isnt only because he’s white lmao no one is making that claim

In fact I would say it was harder for him coming up because he was white but once he breakout it made him the biggest rapper . Easily lmao

Nigga Jokic is one of the best players of all time but tes even before he was some people loved him because he was a day “white” dude

It’s about relatability and representation most of America is what so when they see something white they can root they will

    Same with any other race

    It was a double-edged sword.

He did benefit from being more marketable as a White dude and talked about that in his music.

But Em was also highly controversial too. He had GLAAD, Republicans, and feminist groups protesting his music and calling for boycotts.

Also, he was viewed as a danger to suburban kids no differently from NWA in the past or Grand Theft Auto.

In fact, my mom was playing a radio show in her car in 2002 and I vividly remember hearing a bunch of older people claiming that parents should stop their children from getting into Eminem and Grand Theft Auto so that they won't turn out to be degenerates. And I was very young then.

And he was temporarily banned from certain countries too. And he had the FBI investigate him for "Mosh."

People who act like Eminem was this safe White rapper who had it easy are rewriting history. He and 50 Cent both broke a lot of barriers. (Kanye did too in a totally different way).

Ngl as someone who was never big on Em this is valid. Can’t front like he wasn’t a force in music and pop culture during this time on both sides.

It's actually pretty wild how famous Em and 50 were back then.

I remember going to Sunday School as a kid and this kid asked the teacher why God let 50 Cent survive 9 shots?

And it was mad awkward cause that kid was like 7 years old lol.

I was mad af that I didn't get to see 8 mile either cause I was "too young."

So did being Black contribute to Snoop Dogg being one of the highest selling artists of all time...?

Snoop is very famous but he hasn't sold that much outside of Doggystyle.

He damn near became a singles artist after the 90's.

Nigga probably thinks Taylor Swift is as successful as she is because she’s just that good

I see your point but Taylor is very musically vanilla and safe compared to Eminem lol.
