All these exclusivity deals and they are struggling
They're exploring a sale because they're successful not cus they're struggling. They're seeing if they can get a great deal at the value the company is at
they kinda had the industry and all the studios sweating and playing catch up/playing to IMAX’s rhythm. sad to see them fall in line. although if this leads whoever buys them to build 100s of more real imax screens for people all across the whole world i would be excited.
Don't think this is actually possible. IMAX hasn't made these screens for years nor make 70mm projectors. At best, some theaters are now being renovated to reopen their 1.43, or massive 1.90's are being installed which can be masked to play 1.43 when needed. Projectors are rare, old and collect dust most of the year.
Most of the type of screens people keep talking about were built in the 70's-early 2000's and if anything, there's far less still available now.
No one really likes to talk about it but there's actually just less 1.43 screens than there used to be as IMAX has boomed in Hollywood and transitioned to laser projection and 1.90 ratio screens. Dozens of original ones outright don't exist anymore.
The biggest 15/70 release by a long shot is still The Dark Knight. Like 90 screens in the U.S. alone. For comparison Oppenheimer and Odyssey couldn't even hit 20 (if you expand to dual laser, prob 30-35 screens)
Sony is the best fit here cus they actually develop film and projection technology
That's a bit more relevant than a studio.

It’s not about relevancy it’s about money
Whichever studio buys it, it becomes an exclusive format for them. Regular people lose as always
What even is IMAX man

They're also more likely to not make s*** exclusive.

IMAX is pocket change for either though. Don't think it'd really shift much for a Disney especially when they're not a tech company
Sony also got into theatrical exhibition with Alamo Drafthouse.
What even is IMAX man
It's a film projection and camera format developed in the 1970's for large format films. Was an attempt to maximize immersion and size by running a large 70mm print vertically rather than horizontally. As time went on it by chance happened to popularize in Hollywood thanks to Nolan. Screens were mostly for IMAX short films, documentaries and museum content prior
People like to think of it in terms of its relationship with Hollywood but its a hardware/camera company at its core. Doesn't actually own theaters or screens, but will provide technology for theaters to make them and license to theaters and museums.

Very interesting.
I usually go to smaller cinemas in my city which dont have IMAX so this not really impacting me
AMC + IMAX would go crazy
AMC has its own severe problems to deal with. If there's anyone that needs a new owner its them.
Most of company value this decade was massively inflated off of a reddit meme and now its spiraled down to $1.50 a share. They could potentially be delisted soon if it continues.
We'll either see a sell or bankruptcy (more likely) as soon as this year
Imagine Disney buys and immediately replace the Dune 3 IMAX screenings with Doomsday
