Im not actually rushing anything I just have the house/surround system to myself and I'm stuck on the couch all day so I'm listening to new albums back to back. I rarely like listening to the same album on repeat for a whole day and it's rarer for me to get an album that I feel like it requires a lot of listens to digest like that
I relisten to whatever I really like but that doesn't mean I can't just listen to a bunch of new records and spend a day exploring new musicians. I've found only ~5 I plan on revisiting but I enjoy hearing stuff that is new to me over anything else. This has been one of my favorite things to do since I was a kid and found my dads CD collection, and also found out you could borrow any CD in existence from the library to copy
You do you tho
I'm not saying it's bad to listen to a ton of new music, discovery is the most thrilling aspect of being a music fan. I'm referring to you saying that your goal is to listen to 300 albums this year, which is an arbitrary number. Like if you only listen to 290, that shouldn't be considered a failure of your goal since you obviously still discovered a ton of new tunes. There are lots of lastfm/rym users who approach music from this lame ass stats oriented perspective, this is a gripe of mine that isn't directed at you in particular.
Also, are you saying out of all the albums you've heard from this year only 5 were good enough to keep in rotation? That's pretty crazy to me. There's so many albums I didn't feel strongly about on first listen (Two Star & The Dream Police, Ganger, Essex Honey, Lifetime) that I came to love after running them back some more. If you give some of those albums a second chance you might like some more than you remember

I just like listening to new music. It's not about the stats it's about experiencing it all for me. Outside of the top 50 it's completely neglible tbf
And no, I'm saying there was only a few I had on repeat but after thinking more that's def not right there was a ton lol. I have playlists I maintain heavily too so it's not like I hear a song/album once and then never again. I guess it's pretty common I put one of these yearly playlists on, a random song comes on and then I relisten to the album too
Just go on rym bro and work thru the charts or something
I just looked at it and I already listened to almost all of the first page but I like hearing from actual people what they like more

If you're enjoying the music and not pressuring yourself to listen to albums for the sake of hitting a target number I don't think there's any issue, have fun

Extra small seems dope but this album is from 2024
45 pounds is in my top 3-5. Been obsessed with them since I found them last year. Seems this album low-key blew them up. I'd call them noise rock mixed with synth punk specifically, but so unique and original they could spawn a whole new genre
My wrapped showed they had about half of my top 10 most played songs of the year. Forgot id obsessively listen to castro raw and sickle walk over and over as singles
The vocals scare me but the drums are so incredible and the synths they add are really interesting. Idk what’s up with the extra small but Theres two versions of the album one is from 2025
A City Drowned in God's Black Tears - Infinity Knives & Brian Ennals
Pray 4 Me - Chris Patrick
Goyard Ibn Said - Ghais Guevara
A Quest to Self-Mythologize - Ghais Guevara
The Pilot - Mavi
Dali Aint Dead - Zelooperz
Pinball II - Mike & Tony Seltzer
Showbiz - Mike
Good Things Take Time - Deante Hitchcock
From Florida's Finest - Sailorr
Vamp - Magnolia Park (this one is more like Pop-Punk almost? Not sure how to describe the genre but some of the songs are so infectious)
While the Iron is Hot - Ovrkast
Sankofa - Redveil
They Left Me With a Sword - Paris Texas
They Left Me With a Gun - Paris Texas
A Murder of Crows - Mick Jenkins & EMIL
From the Private Collect of Saba & No ID - Saba & No ID
I'm sure you've heard of some if not a lot of these but wanted to include as much as I could think of on the spot just in case
Shooting for the same goal as you; I have 9 left before 300.
Here are my favorites from my top 50 that went under the radar on KTT:
Jens Lekman - Songs for Other People's Weddings
Lou-Adriane Cassidy - Journal d'un loup-garou
Huremic - Seeking Darkness
César y su Jardín - Corre y suelta a los perros
Alan Sparhawk with Trampled by Turtles - Alan Sparhawk with Trampled by Turtles
Anna von Hausswolff - Iconoclasts
Niños del Cerro - Alma Tadema
Mei Semones - Animaru
Frog - 1000 Variations on the Same Song
Annahstasia - Tether
Tennis - Face Down in the Garden
Gelli Haha - Switcheroo
TURQUOISEDEATH - Guardian
Candelabro - Deseo, carne y voluntad

+1 for Tether I can’t believe I forgot that one, gorgeous album

Yeah im pretty sure they won't even be able to do another album that's similiar with the vocals cause after their tour that dudes gotta have the most shredded throat of all time
