usually just wait for Black Friday and Thanksgiving, Day 1 is so dead lmfao. I’m a patient guy
I can never wait that long for some buckets. Real niggas know I'll drop a twinkie as a 6 deuce
Americans keep complaining about this but y'all don't realise how lucky y'all have had it
New games were 700 in my currency during the 360/PS3 gen. Imagine being a kid/teen, earning no income and having to ask your parents for 700 bucks so you can buy a video game
PS4/XB1 gen games were 1000, current gen games are like 1300-1500
And before y'all talk about exchange rates and how it's the same because the dollar is 20x our currency - our salaries aren't 20x yours. I got 2 degrees and I'm earning 8000 a month, about $450. I'd have to spend my entire month's salary + another half of my salary to buy a PS5 disc version
Gaming is expensive but imagine having to spend a rack on a game or 12 racks on a console
they're understandably spoiled
If you’re excited about a game go for it. It’s hard to justify buying games in general to me, so just do what you want and don’t worry about it.
If you don’t want to wait then don’t, it’s all chill

i don't understand this this kind of mentality tbh. Imagine a form of entertainment where people have to limit themselves just because the content is too expensive. That is what gaming do to people lol. Imagine if it was music and people would've had to wait for a specific holiday, for them to be able to buy and listen to an album at a reasonable price.
Yeah literally this, gaming been incredibly inflation resistant, even compared to other forms of entertainment (like cinemas and s***).
Gives of the same vibe as ppl complaining about having to pay 12 bucks a month to listen to 100 million songs an unlimited amount of times with Spotify instead of paying 12 bucks for 1 album.
spoiled rotten

May I introduce you to theatre

yeah it feels weird but gradual inflation is normal
it’s definitely a psychological battle because $80 feels wrong but now that $80 is a small to moderate amount of groceries when i used to leave with the cart bursting, it makes sense
I think what’s off-putting and why the reaction was especially negative is that Nintendo didn’t make $70 a standard first
If you buy or pre order buy a game day one you need to get your ass whooped , doesn't matter if it's 60 or 80$
Why the f*** would you rush with your wallet in hand to play an half assed game ?
And I'm not gonna talk about the people who buy the "Deluxe" or "Ultimate" version day one... 💔💔🐶
Gaming is not like music it's actually closer to the arts. It's now being priced as such
goldeneye for Nintendo 64 cost $69.99 in the year of our lord 1997.
u really think $80 is that bad in 2025?
It is bad
But what are we gonna do? It is what it is

Key word: entertainment
You really don't have to pay $80 for a video game if you don't want to

i mean paying $60-$80 for a microstransaction game that comes out yearly just seems dumb to me when I can wait with the servers from the last game still active lmao. i like playing the game, I’m not a fan of the new price point so I’ll wait lol and save that to buy something else
i saw Captain America yesterday on Disney+, I wasn’t tryna pay the $10 to see it in theaters. never really felt like I’ve missed much of anything in my gaming life doing this

minimum wage was like $3.80 in the 90s bro, back when n64 games were $70 and $80
I get my keys from third parties and they’re always cheap
Really though if corporations want that red line to stay up, wages need to go up. The way they’re moving right now isn’t economically stable

The floor went up but the ceiling stayed the same

Nominal weekly wages have gone up 48% since Q1 2015. Games have gone from 60 to 70 bucks in that time frame.
Don’t get me wrong, way more important stuff like housing and food have become way more expensive and that’s a very valid thing to complain about, but yall crying about games just makes you look like lazy out of touch mfers who have no idea what’s going on in the world.
Edit: sorry didn’t see someone else replied to you yet

It’s been resistant because of a rapidly growing customer base (gaming got more accessible and mainstream) over 2-3 decades, and cheapening technology. COVIDflation definitely pushed the red button though these price increases were inevitable
