Maybe it’s a grew up in the 2000’s thing but the mainstream (or the idea of the general culture rather) had a certain standard at one point which is why things like “xxl album rating” “five mics” existed or the general discourse around albums like Eminem or Wayne 08-10 style change from his mixtape s***
The mainstream’s quality/standard matters because it’s what raises the next generation
the other thing that is different from any prior point in rap history is that there is no real mainstream anymore lol. Someone like Quavo or Meek Mill or Rick Ross or Trippie Redd aren’t guaranteed to even sniff near 100k. Rap as a whole has become inconsequential

In fairness ppl get married, get busy with work, have kids to the point where they just don't have time to do any extra digging around for new music but still lol always annoys me when I hear ppl say that only to find out they just rely on radio and listening to the same 20 songs from when they were younger
I got a friend who's married with 3 kids...cant afford cable or internet at the moment and "doesn't like streaming" off anything other than pandora...anytime I try to put him on to new music it's like I can see it going in one ear and out the other bc he's so focused on the next diaper change or meal he has to make for them kids lol makes me appreciative to not have any
Now while this is true it doesn’t have anything to do with niggas pushing nettspend and s*** as the answer to these problems lol
He just needs a rapper that raps about niggas in his age range having to grow up and do s*** like that. But because that wouldn’t instantly be a club hit or “go viral”/would “scare the hoes” it never gets made or never gets pushed if it does get made lol

they can’t dispute that so they just strawman and make these corny elitist threads
The thing is is that WE are the ones that create the superstar, but people are so up in arms about not having one and need spoon fed music that the person waiting to blow up with the actual talent and vision is still in the same position.
