Does a song need a melodic element and progression to be good?
Plenty of experimental, minimal rap songs from 90s and modern, electronic music, club music etc are driven by drum programming and bass and not much else. That is just the nature of that song.
I think the fact it’s so popular with basically 0 tangible, memorable melodic elements is a testament to her as a vocalist.
I can’t think of another recent ‘tiktok era’ song that is similarly minimal in its musicality yet so popular
