MyLeftBrainI am not trying to talk s***, I am just trying to understand.
The information that I have found online is that ICE is deporting the illegal immigrated, not legal immigrants.
I am asking because if the government in my country said they wanted deport people who illegally came into the country, it would not be controversial.
I feel like I am missing something
ICE under the Biden administration in 2024 hit a 10 year high in deportations. The highest peak prior to that was during Obama. Biden also renewed contracts with private immigration prisons that were already well known for inhumane conditions.
The deportation and unethical mistreatment of illegal immigrants is really nothing new, though Democrats just don’t advertise it as much since the reactionary “us vs them” ideology isn’t generally a core component of their campaigns.
The question to be asked here is not “well, why can’t we deport illegal immigrants?”. Because, there really is nothing inherently unlawful about doing so. Being the “backbone of America” or whatever narrative doesn’t really change that. Though, you could certainly make a case for changing the law, improving or expanding access/pathways to legal citizenship, etc.
The question to be asked here is “Is the way we are deporting illegals immigrants lawful?”. And that’s the big difference with the Trump administration, where we are seeing gross violations of due process that are guaranteed to all people (regardless of citizenship) by the U.S. constitution. And the very scary thing is that many people almost seem to have been very easily convinced to believe that these illegal immigrants have no rights. Which is entirely false, on both an ethical and legal plane. And unfortunately a slippery slope into fascism.

I just have to address this part. As such, is not doing anything here. Slavery has been going on before you and I were even thought of, that doesn’t mean it’s a gray area. Just because we inherit an older problem doesn’t mean it’s a gray area. At some point in human history someone said we need to stop human sacrifice, and it wasn’t a gray area because people were doing it before they were born.
Now you can make a better argument that immigration a gray area, and I’m not here to argue against that, but your evidence(long ongoing topic) does not support your statement(it’s gray).
Now things that aren’t gray are the rights of due process. If these guys are saying they’re all about law and order then they need to follow the law. Get a warrant. The people aren’t going to let the government break the law to destroy their friends and families.
