I wonder what Vybz Kartel thought about Drake using Jamaican culture and dancehall music

Just cause they big him up doesn’t mean it’s not true. UFC fighters go to bat for Dana but that doesn’t mean the contracts aren’t bad

But these aren’t contracts. These are genuine relationships drake/OVO have developed over the years. I mean sure some of it might come off as transactional, but the culture vulture angle has never made sense to me.

Also, the co-signs absolutely matter. This is way different than the UFC. Pinning someone as a culture vulture when everyone in the direct vicinity of that particular culture/area doesn’t agree with you is definitely an L.

Yup, stealing the sound for your own gain while excluding those who made it popular != bringing up other people, being influenced by their sound, showing it to the world and taking the glory together

I promise you no one cares about "cultural appropriation", people like it when you celebrate their culture

Eh, that city still showed their ass and they were embarrassing. It's one thing for Kendrick fans to scream back lyrics dissing Drake, it's another thing to be the only city to be caught yelling out for Kendrick to perform Not Like Us again. That's just stupid and shows they have ZERO cultural awareness over there. But then again, that's always been Toronto. They have no sense of identity and they've always been insecure about their place culturally amongst other massive metropolitan North American cities.

I don't think the people at the Kendrick show were reflective of the entire city of Toronto but it was a terrible look that Americans will forever use to mock them/Drake if only to prove that they don't have any idea of how to present a united front for the one guy that's always put on for them and took them from a city that was largely seem as a joke to a city to started getting respected.

Drake is gonna be fine but if I'm him, I'm cooling it on the 6 God/Toronto bars on the next album. They don't deserve that and he's already done more than enough to honor that city in his music.
