Reading through this thread and the main takeaway I’m getting for someone like me is to stay as independent as possible for as long as possible, musically speaking.
Yeah, labels have power that can help push you, but the politics and ever shifting nature of it just sounds like a nightmare.
Like, imagine you’re beefing with someone and then out of nowhere they own part of your label, and now they’re blocking hits and s***. Just not worth it imo.

UMG is not a publicly traded company so theres that.

UMG is owned by 3 different companies so finding out their worth would be tedious.
So lets use Warner, the less of the Big 3 in the music industries. They are owned by Access Industries with a market cap of 57 billiion.
UMG is way bigger but we will assuming they have the same market cap.
Drakes deal of 500 million is 0.63% of the market cap. In what world do you think someone like that would have the power to call the shots other than profit off of it.
Also why would you think he put all the money they gave him back into the company. Or are you saying they gave him all that money just so he can control other artists???
