It was rebelling against the boomers who absolutely didn’t want their kids to listen to offensive lyrics. People with a similar appeal are marilyn manson and eminem’s idol, eazy e

I was born in 2004 but Eminem is still literally the worst rapper of all time. How are you impressed by preschool raps? “I’m slim shady, I’m hotter than a set of twin babies”

Then listen to Kim. He’s an alcoholic angry white man that need to see a therapist.

I'm crine you're a lil ass 16 year old kid ofc u dont get Eminem and why he was hot lmaooo

I'm not saying he didn't benefitted but it's impossible to have a serious conversation about Eminem here, it's just hate and super corny jokes

Yet there are new Em threads everyday. At this point it should just be the album thread so they can say "I don't care" and that's it lol

Why did I have to be alive to witness his run? Everything is on YouTube bro. I know his life story and all of that. I’d rather listen to DaBaby and 6ix9ine than Eminem. At least they keep it real. Why was Eminem wearing a durag when he can’t even get waves

lol old s*** isn't even on Youtube like that or it's all in like 320p lmao

You missed his videos being in constant rotation just like his music, the hype for 8 Mile, award performances, the hate he used to get,...

2002 was pretty much Eminem making rap global. He opened the door and him, Nelly and Snoop were everywhere.

You weren’t alive to see his prime. Eminem Show & 8 Mile dropped in back to back years & shook the world. Idk how you can listen to something like Stan, White America, or Soldier & think he’s the worst rapper alive. He is a cemented legend no matter how much trash he’s Dropped for damn near 20 years now

TES and 8 Mile dropped on the same year. He also signed 50. Dude was on fire in 02 lol

It also used to be the posters era. I remember going to the stores and checking the posters of Em, Ja, Nelly, Snoop,... Miss that.

    pop sounding beats
shock value that kids loved at the time (marilyn manson type crowd)
    interscope

  • Feb 22, 2021

I discovered him in Dublin at 13yo. We were listening to Without Me all day cause TES wasn't out yet.

  • He got co signed by a bunch of legends and big names at a time when co signs were more important. He appealed to edgy kids, you can make the white rapper arguement but there hasn't been a white rapper before or after em, that's sold anywhere near him. It did play a factor though.
He made good music at that time, lyrically and technically was skilled, cosigned by greats and was always in the news for s*** whether it was beef with people or labels, doing wild ass s*** or just general buzz. He was a wild motherfucker back then and news and interest didn't move as fast as today.

All these early 2000s babies ITT trying to say that the only reason was because he was white lmao. If you weren’t born when MMLP came out you don’t get to speak on the reasons for his popularity.....

He had slick rhymes, a LOT of controversy, incredible Dre production, engaging content (the stuff that wasn’t over the top ridiculous) and an innate ability to flow on a beat. He was also white, which no doubt contributed to his massive global popularity, but let’s not fool ourselves into thinking that was the only reason.

Em was also widely embraced by white AND black communities, so that argument really doesn’t hold up well

Goddamn idiots ITT. Em a solidified legend it doesn't matter if you agree with it or not tbh.

  • Feb 22, 2021

But on a side note, my brother was born in '05 and I showed him Kim a couple weeks ago and he was blown away. Blown away by lots of Em's earlier work. If you can't feel the spark and the creativity that came from that 99-02 run then you really don't know hip hop imo.

  • Feb 22, 2021

He spoke on politics, love, d*** use, violence, absent fathers, etc. in ways that no one else had. Some of it was clearly eccentric, but it still struck a chord in millions.

Also 8 Mile is a GOAT film

Being born in 03, I was able to get the cultural sensations that came before my time, like Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park.
But Eminem is trash man, me and my fellow white snowflakes hate that dude. Don’t see the appeal

Are you implying Limp Bizkit is more talented or released better music than Eminem?

Yes being white contributed and he was skilled as f***.

But I don't think a lot of fans who got into rap after 2010 understood how acceptable and marketable it was to be goofy in pop hits whether it was the music video or the lyrics, this wasn't exclusive to rap either (Cupid's Chokehold/Gym Class Heroes, What's My Age Again/Blink 182, Rockstar/NERD, Hot n Cold/Katy Perry). Actually being able to make it catchy while being a good rapper compounded Em's appeal even more.

Right now pop rap is centred around flexing and being cool (nothing new) but comedy rap is deservedly seen as "cringe". Sure you can have funny raps now but people just percieve them as memes or enjoy it ironically.

Also everyone was doing ridiculous records sold back then if they were successful

His image and music videos were also lowkey pretty good and really just stood out at the time... I mean..

    !https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNPnbI1arSE!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xbw_BxDwdjk!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTWBQkT9QyE!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVkUvmDQ3HY!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttWQK5VXskA

Busta rhymes was extremely talented and had eccentric videos...
    But I guess....

Yeah, but look at Khloe Kardashian for example. Everyone called her ugly, and now she looks like a complete different woman. Same with Kylie.

But did he look good? No, he ended looking fake as f***, like Lil Kim.

Love his music, but it's the truth.

Eminem has had plastic surgery as well (allegedly)

No one knows for real. I would say hair maybe, but everyone in the public eye does it.

The rest, nah, his face looks like s*** lol, that's why they have him wearing make up in music videos now.
